Sabres Trade For Steve Bernier

Steve Bernier
The San Jose Sharks dealt away Steve Bernier today to the Buffalo Sabres for all star Brian Campbell. On the season Bernier’s scored 13 goals with 10 assists and 23 points. Steve’s 22 years old, and was taken with the 16th overall pick in the 2003 draft by the San Jose Sharks. A very good offensive defenseman, Campbell’s recorded 38 assists with 43 points this season. He’s appeared in 63 games this season.

“I know Campbell is pretty much the best defenseman in the league,” Steve Bernier said of the trade. “From my point of view, it’s going to be tough. I’ve got a lot of work to do to become a good player, and I’m happy to do it with the Sabres.”

This trade came as a shock for Campbell, who’s spent all 8 years of his career with the Sabres. The trade’s purpose was to help the team rebuild with talented younger players rather than veterans.

“It’s a shock,” Campbell said. “There’s a lot of good years here in Buffalo. Once it happens, it hits home pretty fast, but I’m looking forward to it now.”

The other moves from the Sabs today were minor in comparison-they dealt defenseman Rob Davison to the New York Islanders for a 7th round draft pick, and signed veteran backup goalie Brian Bouchet.
