Rookie Fred Lewis Hits For Cycle
San Francisco Giants rookie Fred Lewis hit for the cycle on Sunday in a game against the Colorado Rockies. He hit a double in the first inning, in the fourth inning he hit a homerun, a triple in the fifth inning, and he hit a single in the seventh inning to cap off six runs other runs scored that inning. The timing was great for Lewis, who was not only just called up from Triple A four days earlier, but his performance would make for an ideal gift for his mother on mother’s day.
“This was my Mothers Day gift to mom, I called her to tell her I hadn’t gotten her anything - until now.”

The Giants would go on to win the game 15-2. Matt Cain also pitched six solid innings for the Giants. Kevin Frandsen hit a three rbi triple and had four hits. The victory moved the Giants above .500, their record is now 19-18. In the National League West division San Francisco is now 3.5 games back.
This game is exactly what the Giants need. Playing time is exactly what the Giants’ younger talent needs. None of the Giants’ starters are under 30. With regular center fielder Dave Roberts out with a bone spur in his left elbow rookie Fred Lewis has a chance to impress San Francisco management and force them to make decisions. Also 24 year old Kevin Frandsen had a big day. He could try to win playing time from light fielding third baseman Pedro Feliz. For this Giants team to turn things around in the standings they need to focus more on the younger talent. Fred Lewis and Kevin Frandsen provide hope for a struggling aging Giants team.
