It hasn’t been a good day for New York Islanders fans. First General Manager Garth Snow proved to be a seller at this year’s trading deadline (Dealing Marc-Andre Bergeron, a 7th round draft pick, and Chris Simon and receiving draft picks and Rob Davison), and then a demoralizing 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Goals for the Penguins were scored by Evgeni Malkov, Jeff Taffe, Jordan Staal and Connor James. Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro saved 17 of 21 attempted shots.

The standout player of this game was Penguins goalie Ty Conklin. Conklin was sensational tonight, stopping 50 of 52 attempted Islanders shots. Ty will improve to 17-4-5 on the season with this performance. The only Islanders to beat Conklin tonight were Frans Nielson and the red hot Ruslan Fedotenko.

Before the game, Isles head coach Ted Nolan explained that the Chris Simon move was beneficial for each side.

“There are a lot of guys in this league who do a lot of wrongs,” Nolan said of Simon. “But it’s a nice fresh start for him, and a nice fresh start for us.”
