Padres Release Marcus Giles

Description
Marcus Giles is no longer teammates with his older brother, and should have quite a hard time finding a new team this offseason. Giles appeared in 116 games for the San Diego Padres this past season, hitting .229 with four home runs and 39 RBI. The Padres owe Marcus a $500,000 buyout of his $4 million option.

Giles’ career seems to have taken the same path as Bret Boone’s. His career decline started at just 27 years old. He had a .262 average in 2006, and his average dropped 33 more points this season. There’s always a need for second basemen in the league, but with his recent decline what team would risk the acquisition? 2008 has to be put up or shut up for Giles, who could find himself without a Major League job if he doesn’t improve.
