MLB and Mrs. Fields to bake baseball cookies together

Mrs. Fields Boston Red Sox CookiesIn case you missed the memo, Major League Baseball has found a new way to market its image. MLB and Mrs. Fields Famous Brands have reached an agreement, allowing the cookie company to bake its doughy discs of goodness and brand them with the logos of the 30 MLB teams, making Mrs. Fields an officially licensed product of MLB. Before creating her world famous cookies, Debbi Fields was a ball girl for the Athletics in the 70s, so you could just say that Mrs. Fields is getting in touch with her roots.

So if you want to impress your friends, pick up a box of baseball cookies, but make sure you don’t tell them that you spend $35.99 for a dozen of them, because if they’re not the best cookies in the world, you’ll be a laughing stock. In fact, at $3 a cookie, you might not want to even share them with your friends. Just sit in front of your television debating if and when you’ll divest yourself of such an expensive investment.

Right now only a dozen teams’ cookies are available from mrsfields.com – including all eight 2010 playoff teams, the Cardinals and Cubs, Mets and Red Sox – but the company plans to have all 30 teams represented by Opening Day, so if you’re an unfortunate fan of the Pirates or Nationals, you be able to turn a disappointing 2011 campaign into something delicious, but for now, the struggle continues. Or you could just bake your own cookies.

Why buy a ticket to see a game live and support your home team from the stands when you can just buy a cookie instead? But seriously, $36 for 12 cookies is a little steep; especially considering the decoration on the cookies is nothing more than a logo in some icing. Don’t forget that you must order these cookies online and there’s a $10 shipping charge tacked on as well. The connection between MLB and Mrs. Fields’s childhood is nice, but for the price you’ll pay, you better expect a heck of a lot more than just a good cookie.
