Mitchell Report Released Today

Well the grand announcement was made today, and there were quite a few surprises on the Mitchell steroid report. Among the names listed as steroid abusers were Roger Clemens, Andy Petitte, Miguel Tejada, Paul Lo Duca, Mo Vaughn, Randy Velarde, Eric Gagne, Troy Glaus, Tim Laker, and Gary Sheffield. This is definitely not good for the game, and is something that needs to be addressed by Bud Selig.

“Judge me by my work,” George Mitchell said. “Read the report. You will not find any evidence of bias, of special treatment of the Red Sox or anyone else, because there is none. That had no effect, none whatsoever, … on this report.”

As a Mets fan, I’m now glad the Mets have cut ties with Paul Lo Duca, and as a baseball follower I now understand why the Orioles traded Miguel Tejada. All of these names lead me to believe that several baseball moves this offseason have been made as a result of the portending Mitchell report. Although it is not solely baseball that has a steroid problem, the MLB is the first company to have their steroid abuse problems brought to light. The game will be considerably stricter in terms of drug testing from this point forward.
