The New York Islanders have now won 6 consecutive games, the latest being a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The game was tied at 0 until the third period when Miroslav Satan scored a goal on Lightning goalie Karri Ramo. Satan’s effort earned him the 2nd star of the game honors, the first star going to Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro who stopped all 32 shots on net tonight. Satan’s goal was his 14th on the season.

The night was also of note because the Islanders welcomed back controversial forward Chris Simon. Simon had been suspended for an NHL record 30 games for stomping his skate against the ankle of Jarkko Ruutu. Simon saw 6 minutes and 17 seconds of ice time, mostly to a mixed reaction.

“He did something wrong and he paid the price for it,” Islanders coach Ted Nolan said. “You can’t be too judgmental. I don’t there are too many of us on this planet that don’t make too many mistakes. He loves the game of hockey, he wants to play, he wants to contribute, so right now is a good time for him to come back.”

With the victory the Isles move to 30-25-7, and move to 4th place in the Atlantic Division, ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers.
