Mets Take First Game In Series With Astros
After an abysmal series with the Colorado Rockies, the New York Mets promptly rebounded with a victory over the Houston Astros. The Mets defeated the Astros 6-2. Mets starter John Maine went 7 2/3 innings struck out nine batters, and gave up only two runs and two walks. In the ninth inning Carlos Beltran hit a home run to put the game out of reach. Astros pitcher Jason Jennings gave up nine hits and five runs, all of them earned. Carlos Delgado who’s been having a down year broke out tonight with a four hit night, with an RBI. Ramon Castro also had three hits and two RBI’s.
This game was a good sign for the Mets, who have otherwise had a bad day. Carlos Gomez, a 21 year old prospect broke his hand and will be out for approximately 6-8 weeks. Paul Lo Duca has begun to serve his two week suspension for arguing balls and strikes. Sandy Alomar Jr. was called up from Triple A New Orleans to fill the place of Lo duca, and David Newhan was also called up from Triple A to fill the roster spot of Carlos Gomez. Billy Wagner shut out the game with two strikeouts against his former team.
These two teams will lock up again tommorow, with rookie Mike Pelfrey taking on lefty Wandy Rodriguez.
