Mets Get Crucial Victory Against Braves
The Mets suffered an embarrasing 4 game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies, but are off to a good start to turn their losing ways around. They defeated the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field tonight, to put themselves 5.5 games ahead of the Bravos, with there still being a 2 game difference between them and the Phils. the game was won 7-1 with help from a 3 run double from Marlon Anderson and Home Runs from Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado. Oh and 7 innings of one run baseball from starting pitcher John Maine doesn’t hurt.
“There’s no panic,” says David Wright. “Everybody is calm in here. We’ve lost four games in a row before. ... People say this is a must-win game and all that. We’re the ones in the driver’s seat. We have to remember that.”
This was undoubtedly the most important victory in the Mets season so far. to get a win against a winning pitcher like Tim Hudson can only do wonders for this club. A four game sweep is demoralizing, at least the Mets have some confidence back. Even Tim Hudson had to hand it to the Mets following the victory:
“You think you’re going to cruise through the inning,” Hudson said. “They didn’t give up. They kept putting up good at-bats.”
We’ll see if the Mets’ good fortunes can continue tomorrow when Mike Pelfrey will be recalled from Triple A to make the start for the big club.
