The New York Islanders were on a 6 game winning streak entering Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. However Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils were having no part of being victims of game number 7.

Zach Parise, John Madden, Brian Gionta, and Patrick Elias all scored goals in a 4-2 victory over the Islanders. Goalie Martin Brodeur stopped 19 of 21 attempted shots.

“We didn’t give them a chance to try to do something against us,” Brodeur said. “It was really about us — that we wanted to play well.”

The first goal of the game was scored by center Josef Vasicek, 7 minutes and 55 seconds into the period. The only other goal of the game from the Islanders came from Ruslan Fedotenko, his 13th on the season. The goal would also give rookie Frans Nielsen his first career assist. Isles goalie Rick DiPietro acknowledged the team’s disappointment in the loss after the game ended.

“We definitely made some positive strides, but we’re still not where we want to be,” goalie Rick DiPietro said. “Today was a big game, but we weren’t able to get the job done.”

This game was the first successful outing for the Devils facing the Islanders this year. In 5 previous games, the Devils had scored just 1 point against the Islanders.

“We just got in a funk there for a little while,” Devils forward Brian Gionta said. “We gave up some points we didn’t want to in that home stretch, but we finished pretty strong.”
