Islanders Defeat Penguins 4-1
After losing to the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1, the New York Islanders turned their luck around on the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 4-1 win. Wade Dubielewicz started tonight in place of the injured Rick DiPietro and fared quite well. He earned the 2nd star of the game, stopping 28 of 29 attempted shots. The 1st star of the game was Isles captain Bill Guerin, he scored a goal and dished out an assist. Other Islander goals came from Sean Bergenheim, Trent Hunter and Richard Park. The third star of the game was 25 year old Matt Spiller, he was a + 2 in this game.
The losing goalie of the game was Ty Conklin, he could only manage to save 32 of 36 attempted shots. Earlier on this year he made 50 saves in a game against the Isles but no such luck tonight. The only goal for the Penguins tonight came from Petr Sykora, it was his 28th on the season.
“Really, really disappointed with the performance,” Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. “I’m speechless about their effort, I’m speechless about their concentration and their will to win this game.”
Following the game center Bill Guerin talked about why his team fared better tonight than last night when his squad faced the Flyers.
“Honestly, I just thought we played harder,” Guerin said. “We had everybody finishing their checks, moving their feet better. I think that was the difference.”
