East Defeats West in NHL All Star Game
In the 2008 NHL All Star Game the Eastern coast defeated the Western Coast, by a score of 8-7. The goals from the East Coast were scored by Eric Staal, Andrei Markov, Alex Ovechkin, Brian Campbell, Marian Hossa, and Marc Savard. The NHL All Star Game MVP was Eric Staal, a well earned achievement. Staal scored 2 goals with an assist and 4 shots on goal. Rick Nash had a hat trick for the West Coast with 7 shots on goal.
“I was saying to the guys on the ice if I do give it to my parents, I would sure be the favorite of the family for at least a little while,” Staal said after the game.
The most successful goalie of the game for the West Coast was Evgeni Nabokov, who blocked all 8 shots on goal during the 2nd period. Rick DiPietro handled the shotblocking duties in the first period, blocking 13 of 12 shots on goal. The first and only goal he let in was after just 12 seconds of the game.
“They scored before I even knew what happened,” DiPietro said. “But that’s an All-Star game. A goalie just has do what he can and hope for the best.”
