Dean Browski’s NFL Week 3 Picks

Posted by Dean Browski Categories: NFL,

Season: 15-15-1
Last Week: 6-8-1

A rough week last week, but valuable lessons were learned.  I hope you were paying attention and came out a little wiser.  There are some very intriguing games this weekend, and a few teams in must-win situations.  My favorite picks for this weekend are the Browns, Jaguars, Panthers, and Bills.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Atlanta Falcons
ATL -6
Notes: The Falcons being a 6 point favorite is not something I expected to see at all this year. But there it is staring me right in the face.  I know the Chiefs struggle, but I can’t bring myself to give this many points when it comes to Atlanta.
Pick: Chiefs

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins
WAS -3
Notes: I will point out that I took the Redskins last week. When you have a week like I did it is important to focus on the wins, even if their weren’t a lot of them.  Arizona has taken care of business so far this year, but have done it against the lower echelon of the league.  I don’t see the Cardinals being as tough as the Redskins, and I was really impressed with Washington’s win over New Orleans.  Expect the ‘Skin offense to click on Sunday.
Pick: Redskins

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears
CHI -3
Notes: The Bears would have been half way to my projected win total for them had they pulled off the win last week at Carolina.  This game leaves me guessing as I am not comfortable with Brian Griese at QB for Tampa.  Then again I am not comfortable with anybody on the Bear roster at QB.  Chicago better keep bringing the special teams points, but Devin Hester is a little banged up.  The Bucs have a lot of injuries as well.
Pick: Buccaneers
Dolphins Cheerleader
Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots
NE -12.5
Notes: I am surprised that this line is under two touchdowns. With the total points set at 36, the 12.5 point line doesn’t add up.
Pick: Dolphins

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Giants
NYG -13.5
Notes: Uh, if you know a reason to take the Bengals let me know.
Pick: Giants

Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans
TEN -4.5
Notes: Houston is coming off their impromptu bye week and play a team that they have had limited success against in the past.  Bye weeks are nice, but this wasn’t an ordinary one, will it have the usual benefit?  I am saying that it will be enough of a benefit for this game to be close.
Pick: Texans

Carolina Panthers @ Minnesota Vikings
MIN -3.5
Notes: I am SHOCKED that the Vikings are favored in this game. Tarvaris Jackson has been benched in favor of Gus Frerotte.  This is one of the most unjustified benchings I have ever seen.  The Vikings didn’t score last week because their coach called a horrible game and showed zero confidence in Jackson.  The Panthers get Steve Smith back this week.
Pick: Panthers

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills
BUF -9.5
Notes: The Bills are upholding their end of the deal so far this year.  The Raiders played on the road last week and that doesn’t bode well for a young team.
Pick: Bills

Detroit Lions @ San Francisco 49ers
SF -4
Notes: The 49ers winning last week and then only having to give 4 points to a bad Lions team makes this an easy pick.
Pick: Lions

New Orleans Saints @ Denver Broncos
DEN -5.5
Notes: Tough loss for the Saints last week.  Lucky win for the Broncos. Ever hear of karma?
Pick: Saints

St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks
SEA -9.5
Notes: The Rams are coming apart at the seams.  Don’t expect Head Coach Scott Linehan to make it to Game 4.
Pick: Seahawks

Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens
BAL -1
Notes: The Ravens are just what the Browns need to get well after starting the season against the Cowboys and Steelers.
Pick: Browns

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts
IND -5
Notes: Given all the circumstances it makes more sense for the Colts to be 1-2 than it does for the Jaguars to be 0-3.  Bob Sanders being out is going to be a big problem for the Colts.
Pick: Jaguars

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Philadelphia Eagles
PHI -3.5
Notes: The Keystone State is the best state for NFL teams this year and this game will show that Eastern PA is better than Western PA.  The Eagles will not make as many mistakes as last week.
Pick: Eagles

Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers
GB +3
Notes: The Packers are the lone Home Dog this weekend.  This game is great for the NFL.  Both teams are undefeated and Aaron Rodgers has been excellent.  The Rodgers Romo story-line is a nice one.  I believed from the beginning that the Packers were a good team and they are proving me right so far.  Dallas showed enough flaws on their defense to prove that they must get better if they are going to make it to the Super Bowl.
Pick: Packers

New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers
SD -9
Notes: The Jets are still getting to know each other.  This line is just way too high.
Pick: Jets
