Clemens Will Return With The Yankees

Roger Clemens
On Sunday afternoon Roger Clemens announced to a packed house at Yankee Stadium that he will play for the New York Yankees this season. He made the announcement from George Steinbrenner’s office. He said in the announcer’s booth later that game that he did not tell anyone about his decision. It was pretty obvious, as even his longtime friend Andy Petitte was taken aback by this stunning proclamation.

Despite costing Steinbrenner 28 millions dollars (Clemens was signed to a 28 million dollar deal for this year) this move could not have come at a better time for the Yankees. They have gotten such little starting pitching help that they have called up 20 year old prospect Phil Hughes (Whom Joe Torre claimed would not be called up until September), and Rookie Matt Desalvo is scheduled to make his Major League debut Monday against the Seattle Mariners. Rookie Chase Wright had also debuted for the Yankees this season. Clemens claimed to have sped up his workout regimen, but Clemen’s 2007 debut cannot come fast enough for the Pitching hungry Yankees.
