Barry Bonds was recently indicted, accused of lying to a Grand Jury 19 times. Not only does Bonds face 30 years in prison, but his playing career maybe in serious jeopardy. Bonds announced intentions to play the 2008 season, although that looks less likely.

“I’m surprised,” attorney John Burris said. “But there’s been an effort to get Barry for a long time. I’m curious what evidence they have now they didn’t have before.”

BALCO Laboratory Founder Victor Conte has made some rather confident statements to the press so far but Barry could be in serious trouble, all of which self inflicted. One would think if these allegations were true, Bonds would face serious jail time. Bonds has always had a cloud of suspicion following him but the situation is now much more serious. Whether he actually lied to a Grand Jury could make or break his induction into the hall of fame.
