Philadelphia Sports Fans on 610WIP Are Passionate about Their Team

Philadelphia fans on 610 WIP are intelligent and passionateHoly cow, I spent my entire day in the Pennsylvania area today, and was able to catch 610 AM WIP Sports Talk radio for the majority of the day.  I am impressed how for the most part Philadelphia fans are not fair-weather fans, and are “four for four” fans - meaning they are die-hard fans of Eagles, 76ers, Flyers, and Phillies.  The topic of the day was the blown out of proportion comments of 76ers/Flyers owner Ed Snider.  Snider’s comments were something to the affect of: “Hey maybe I should move the team to a city that would support the team”.  This comment was obviously made in the heat of the moment, even though it was a mistake to threaten the loyal Philadelphia fans.

The hot buttons were the criticism of 76ers President/GM Billy King and his trade moves, especially obtaining Chris Webber late last season.  The fans have been frustrated with the team being stuck in mediocrity since the trip to the NBA Finals when Larry Brown was there coach.  76er fans should be grateful they don’t have the Knicks management running their team to the ground.  Snider was interviewed in the mid-afternoon to defend his comments made the night before, and was trying to quell the fans anger.  The bottom line is that, all but a handful of teams are under the salary cap, and the current system in which the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement is operating on, it is very difficult to make the necessary changes to make your team from pretender to contender.  To all you sports fanatics out there, if your team is struggle, please keep voicing your concerns and disappointment, but remember it is harder than you think to change your team’s fortunes around.
