Junior Seau UN-Retiring?
On Monday, Junior Seau went back to the team that drafted him fifth overall in the 1990 NFL Draft out of USC, the San Diego Chargers, whom he played 13 seasons for. No, Seau was not going to be playing for them after being released by the Miami Dolphins, whom he played with for three seasons. He was back to party and celebrate his retirement. About 300 people were there to celebrate with him. But, guess what?
Seau may be back between the lines making opposing offensive players say his name - SAY-OW!
Seau may be playing for the New England Patriots this season and considering their decimated LB corp, he just may be able to help. Seriously, Seau still looks like he can play and he wasn’t a 12-time Pro Bowler for missing tackles, not making plays, and a great personality and leader on the field.
For the Patriots, a big loss occurred during the offseason when Willie McGinest went to the Cleveland Browns to join his former defensive coordinator back with the Pats, Romeo Crennel, who is now the Browns Head Coach. Tedy Bruschi, a true inspiration, is hurt with a broken hand and Chad Brown and Monte Beisel are also on the mend.
Luckily, the Pats still have a healthy defensive line that includes Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel. And, of course, Bill Belichick as a Head Coach is enticing to join forces with. If Seau passes a physical on Friday, the deal is done and Seau will get a very good chance to win a Super Bowl that he didn’t get to win back in 1995 when he helped the Chargers get to the Big Game, when they fell short.
However, make no mistake, there is nothing short about Seau in his desire to win. That’s why if New England is in fact his last playing stop, he’ll have a place waiting for him at Canton.
