Detroit Tigers Carlos Guillen Hits For The Cycle

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, Kudos, MLB, News,

Carlos Guillen The Tigers Carlos Guillen went 4-for-5 against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with each hit being a different type - a single, double, triple, and a home run - which qualifies for the rare “cycle” of hits.  Guillen’s efforts were part of a 10-4 drubbing by the Tigers over the D-Rays, a win that matches the number of wins the Tigers had all last season (71).

Guillen became only the tenth Tiger to hit for the cycle, last accomplished by Arizona Diamondbacks SS/3B Damion Easley in 2001 when he played for Detroit.  Here’s a list of the ten that cycled:

Carlos Guillen, Aug. 1, 2006, at Tampa Bay
Damion Easley, June 8, 2001, vs. Anaheim
Travis Fryman, July 28, 1993, vs. New York
Hoot Evers, Sept. 7, 1950, vs. Cleveland, 10 innings
George Kell, June 2, 1950, at Philadelphia
Vic Wertz, Sept. 14, 1947, at Washington
Charlie Gehringer, May 27, 1939, vs. St. Louis
Gee Walker, April 20, 1937, vs. Cleveland
Bob Fothergill, Sept. 26, 1926, vs. Boston
Bobby Veach, Sept. 17, 1920, vs. Boston, 12 innings
