Dealing To The Dish: National League 7.18.06

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Editorial, MLB,

Atlanta Braves are bringing their A game Colorado Rockies @ Pittsburgh Pirates
J. Francis (6-8, 4.15) vs. T. Gorzelanny (0-1, 7.00)
A couple of highly touted youngsters do battle for the title of “best highly touted youngster.”  Okay, so sue me for not being able to get creative for a Rockies/Pirates matchup.  But, c’mon, it’s the Rockies and the Pirates!

Washington Nationals @ Florida Marlins
M. O’Connor (3-6, 4.32) vs. D. Willis (6-7, 3.80)
Dontrelle Willis used to be a hot name on the trading block, but since he’s turned it around after starting off very bad and helping in turning around the Marlins as well, Willis is off the market.  Personally, I like the move as I think that with Willis, Josh Johnson, Scott Olsen, Anibal Sanchez, and Ricky Nolasco, the Marlins rotation is GOOD!

New York Mets @ Cincinnati Reds
M. Pelfrey (1-0, 3.60) vs. E. Milton (6-4, 5.19)
Let’s see the Mets score 11 runs in an inning again!  You know, playing at Great American Ballpark in Cincy, they just might be able to repeat the feat.  Of course, the Reds themselves could do it as well.

Houston Astros @ Chicago Cubs
R. Oswalt (6-6, 3.06) vs. C. Marmol (2-3, 4.23)
Roy Oswalt is a good pitcher.  The Chicago Cubs are a bad team.  Guess who I think will win.

Atlanta Braves @ St. Louis Cardinals
T. Hudson (6-8, 4.81) vs. J. Marquis (11-6, 5.34)
Look out, folks, the Braves are a coming!  Winners of six in a row and a total blowout job on the Cardinals yesteray (a 15-3 win), the Mets have to be looking over their shoulders.  As of now, the Braves are 11.5 games back.  It’s conceivable that they could get it to single digits by the end of the week.  I’d feel so bad for Mets fans around the world if that happened.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Arizona Diamondbacks
C. Billingsley (0-2, 4.45) vs. J. Cruz (3-4, 4.45)
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to get back on top of the D-backs in the N.L. West standings where the San Diego Padres seem to be pulling away a bit.

Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres
R. Madson (8-6, 5.91) vs. C. Hensley (5-7, 4.70)
The Phillies hope to win the next two games against the Padres in order to finish their West Coast trip on a positive as they are 2-2 right now on the trip.  With the Braves surging and the Mets just playing consistently well, they can’t afford to fall back and down into the bottom of the N.L. East.

Milwaukee Brewers @ San Francisco Giants
T. Ohka (2-1, 3.18) vs. J. Wright (5-8, 5.06)
The Brewers could surprise everyone, especially those in Milwaukee, and actually make the playoffs this season.
