Dealing To The Dish: National League 6.21.06

Chris CapuanoInterleague games to be played on National League ground:

Detroit Tigers @ Milwaukee Brewers
N. Robertson (7-3, 3.43) vs. C. Capuano (7-4, 3.30)
- This is the early game today, being played at 2:05pm EST, so all of you fantasy baseball fans - update your lineup!  In any case, the Tigers are looking to sweep their second consecutive N.L. team.  Capuano may have something to say about that as he’s been on lately.  Regardless, folks, the Tigers are for real.

Los Angeles Angels @ San Francisco Giants
J. Weaver (3-9, 6.02) vs. N. Lowry (2-5, 4.20)
- Why is Jeff Weaver still in the rotation?  Hello, Angels organization, you have the wrong Weaver in there!  It should be Jeff’s little brother, Jered, who is now down in Triple A that’s starting for the big club.  But this decision-making might be one reason why the Angels are in last place in the A.L. West.

New York Yankees @ Philadelphia Phillies
J. Wright (3-4, 4.86) vs. C. Hamels (1-2, 4.91)
- The much hyped Hamels (I’m guilty of spreading it myself) has looked ugly since coming off a stint on the DL with a shoulder strain, going 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA.  If Hamels should have a bad outing, he can only hope that 1B Ryan Howard goes off again like he did last night when Howard hit a couple of dingers and drove in all seven Phillies runs.  The Yankees are hoping to keep up with the Red Sox, who are riding a five-game winning streak.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Atlanta Braves
T. Lilly (6-7, 4.12) vs. T. Hudson (6-5, 3.88)
- The Braves are losers of eight games in a row and it just doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon.  The once mighty Braves have fallen hard in the N.L. East and hope they can beat the also-ran Blue Jays in the middle game of the three-game set.  Hudson may be their best chance as he’s arguably Atlanta’s best chance to stop the bloodletting.

Minnesota Twins @ Houston Astros
C. Silva (3-8, 7.07) vs. W. Rodríguez (8-4, 4.59)
- The Twins are on an eight game winning streak. 1B Justin Morneau is starting to fulfill the promise he showed a couple of seasons ago.  The Astros have lost three of their last four games, including a 6-5 loss to the Twins last night.  They’ve been losing it late in games recently and need to stem that tide somehow.  I’m jumping the gun, but I’m really excited to see tomorrow’s matchup between the returning Roger Clemens and rookie Francisco Liriano.

Oakland Athletics @ Colorado Rockies
B. Zito (8-3, 3.51) vs. A. Cook (5-7, 3.66)
- After winning ten games straight, the Athletics have lost two games in a row, both to the Rockies.  If anyone can put a stop to the losing, it very well could be Barry Zito, who is looking to win his sixth straight decision.  Surprisingly, the A’s have not scored any runs in two games in Coors Field!  Obviously, the A’s need to score some runs for them to get back on track.

Seattle Mariners @ Los Angeles Dodgers
J. Washburn (4-8, 4.66) vs. C. Billingsley (0-0, 3.38)
- I bet the Mariners wish they would be realigned to the N.L. as they are perfect against the N.L. going 7-0 thus far.  Tney look to put a hurting to Dodgers rookie pitcher, Chad Billingsley.  The Dodgers have lost four in a row and have fallen our of first in the N.L. West.

And the only NON-Interleague game:

Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets
J. Mays (0-0, 1.29) vs. A. Soler (2-1, 3.00)
- The Mets are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have a firm hold on the N.L. East.  Rookie pitcher, Alay Soler looks to get his first home win.  Two Mets were recently named Co-Players of the Week - Jose Reyes and David Wright - and both are on pace to start the All-Star game.  The Reds are 2-8 in their last 10 games and hope get back to their early season success.  Mays makes his first start for the Reds.

That’s all I got.  Enjoy the games!
