Dealing To The Dish: National League 6.17.06
The following games take place on National League ground:
Boston Red Sox @ Atlanta Braves
J. Beckett (7-3, 5.26) vs. L. Cormier (2-1, 6.10)
- Beckett tries to get it going again pitching back in the National League where he used to make batters look silly and won a World Series with the Florida Marlins in 2003. Beckett will deal to a familiar opponent in the Braves who are playing well below .500 ball thus far this season.
New York Yankees @ Washington Nationals
S. Chacón (4-1, 5.23) vs. R. Ortiz (5-5, 4.88)
- The Yankees won last night’s contest, but former Yankee, Alfonso Soriano got to hit one out off of Jaret Wright in the bottom of the third frame, but of course, it didn’t matter since the Yankees won 7-5 last night, scoring two runs in the final frame to take the contest.
Detroit Tigers @ Chicago Cubs
J. Verlander (7-4, 3.32) vs. C. Marmol (1-0, 0.90)
- Verlander has shown himself to be more than ready for this league, after being the Tigers top pitching prospect in the minors. This Marmol guy just started pitching for the big club, being a reliever in two games, and a starter just recently against the Cincinnati Reds, going six innings with 7 Ks and giving up only one run.
Toronto Blue Jays @ Florida Marlins
C. Janssen (5-4, 3.66) vs. B. Moehler (4-5, 6.68)
- Janssen has been a nice surprise for the Jays. He is part of the reason the team is actually contending in the A.L. East, home of the Yankees and Red Sox. OF Alexis Rios is finally living up to his potential. The Marlins have won seven in a row, including a 3-1 win last night against the Jays.
Chicago White Sox @ Cincinnati Reds
J. Contreras (7-0, 2.62) vs. E. Milton (4-3, 4.10)
- Since Ozzie Guillen gets to pick who starts the All Star game, you can bet he’s going to go with his own guy, Contreras. And you know what, it would be hard to argue against that choice. Simply put, Adam Dunn has been nothing short of amazing, batting average excluded. But check out the high OPS!
Kansas City Royals @ Houston Astros
B. Keppel (0-2, 3.04) vs. T. Buchholz (3-6, 6.06)
- Last night the Royals came into Minute Maid Park with an 8-29 road record, while the Astros had a respectable 23-15 home record. So what happens last night? The Royals win 7-2, of course.
Minnesota Twins @ Pittsburgh Pirates
B. Bonser (1-1, 5.48) vs. P. Maholm (2-5, 4.56)
- The Twins are trailing the Tigers by a lot of games in the A.L. Central… forget about what the Pirates are doing as they are at the bottom of the barrel in the N.L. Central. This should be a Midwestern slobber knocker!
Cleveland Indians @ Milwaukee Brewers
J. Westbrook (6-3, 4.77) vs. D. Bush (4-6, 5.04)
- When Bush looks good, he looks really good. But, conversely, when he looks bad, he absolutely sucks. Let’s see how he does against the Indians lineup, which can score runs in bunches, what with Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, and Victor Martinez, primarily. Losing Casey Blake who recently went on the shelf, hurts a bit, but the aforementioned players are more than able to pick it up for Blake.
Tampa Bay Devil Rays @ Philadelphia Phillies
S. Kazmir (7-4, 3.38) vs. S. Mathieson (0-0, 0.00)
- In a perfect world, at least for the New York Mets, Kazmir would have been taking the mound against the Phillies in their uniform and shutting down a division rival. However, the world isn’t perfect, but the D-Rays are laughing at the absolute steal of a trade they made with the Mets to get Kazmir.
Baltimore Orioles @ New York Mets
K. Benson (7-5, 4.63) vs. P. Martínez (6-2, 2.94)
- Benson comes back to Shea Stadium to pitch against his old team. Think he’s going to hear the boos from the Mets faithful? You better believe it. It’s quite possible that Martinez could have ten wins already, but things just haven’t worked out in his favor in that sense, despite pitching great.
And the only real National League game:
Colorado Rockies @ St. Louis Cardinals
J. Fogg (4-4, 4.91) vs. C. Carpenter (5-3, 2.57)
- Carpenter had 13 K his last time out. He’s good, very good. However, Fogg is just about the opposite. The Cards won handedly 8-1 last night againt the Rockies. Also, it was great to see Albet Pujols running and getting ready to join the team again. Crossing fingers.
Enjoy the games!
