Dealing To The Dish: American League 7.18.06

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Editorial, MLB,

Sidney Ponson where he deserves to be Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigerrs
J. Garland (8-3, 5.37) vs. N. Robertson (8-5, 3.36)
This is a great matchup between the top two teams in baseball, who happen to be in the same division - the A.L. Central.  The Sox got swept by the Yankees and must feel a bit dizzy from the knockout.  Will the Tigers take advantage of that?  We’ll see starting tonight.

Oakland Athletics @ Baltimore Orioles
E. Loaiza (3-5, 6.34) vs. R. Ortiz (0-1, 8.68)
Esteban Loaiza got paid a lot of money, well a lot for the typically economical Athletics, and he isn’t giving any sort of value back.  Loaiza will never recapture what he was a few seasons ago.

Kansas City Royals @ Boston Red Sox
B. Duckworth (1-2, 5.40) vs. J. Lester (4-0, 2.89)
The Royals gave the Red Sox a heart attack yesterday, just losing 5-4 with the Sox needing to go ahead late in the game.  Heralded rookie, Jon Lester, will try to make it easier this time around.

Seattle Mariners @ New York Yankees
J. Pineiro (6-8, 5.94) vs. S. Ponson (0-0, NA)
In case you couldn’t figure it out, the picture at the top of this post is of new Yankee, Sidney Ponson.  If you ask me, the bum needs to stay on the stands and not on the field.  Blessed with talent, tub of lard wasted it and if the St. Louis Cardinals organization can’t get Ponson to focus and remain consistent, the Yankees are going to have a real hard time of it themselves.  Signing Ponson is nothing more than a shot in the dark that Ponson can get it together.  I DON’T THINK SO!

Texas Rangers @ Toronto Blue Jays
V. Padilla (9-5, 4.25) vs. S. Marcum (0-0, 7.45)
Vincent Padilla has been on of late and helping the Rangers stay in the A.L. West race, which is really like a bunch of fish in a fishnet - everyone is squiggling around try to get on top, but it’s difficult because it’s so packed.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays @ Minnesota Twins
S. Kazmir (10-6, 3.27) vs. F. Liriano (10-2, 2.12)
Go to a bar and watch this game if you don’t live in an area that shows D-Rays and Twinkies games.  Both Scott Kazmir and Francisco Liriano are devestating pitchers with youth on their side.  So, this is but one of many more matchups between these youngsters.  Enjoy the show!

Cleveland Indians @ Los Angeles Angels
C. Lee (9-6, 4.68) vs. J. Saunders (0-0, NA)
The Cleveland Indians have nothing to play for but pride.  They hope to club the Angels back after getting killed by the Angels 10-5 yesterday.  The Halos will send rookie Joe Saunders to the mound, so the Tribe just may get to hack away.
