This issue was displaced somewhat by the current economic news, but it is still near and dear to our hearts because we feel it everyday! What’s behind it? If you’re tuning into the cable news channels you’ve probably heard that it’s greedy oil companies, speculators (an upcoming topic), increased demand in India and China, or because we restrict drilling. Well, which is it?
As much as I hate to ruin a good myth, and this one is a gem, it’s none of the above. Going back to my column on the Federal Reserve, we see that the FED lowered interest rates, and by keeping them there, money poured into the economy. Again, what happens when there are more dollars competing for the same number of (or, close to it) goods and services? Yep, prices rise. Gas prices have risen drastically, because oil prices have risen drastically, because the Federal Reserve has increased the money supply drastically

Last week on the campaign trail, Republican presidential candidate John McCain focused on Democratic nominee, Barack Obama’s radical associations. The unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, slum-lord Tony Rezco, and controversial pastors, Jeremiah Wright and Father Flager, are just some of the names tied to Obama. Even though there is plenty of proof that back up McCain’s claims, the media has let them go unnoticed.
While campaigning in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania today, Democratic Vice presidential nominee Joe Biden said of McCain’s above comments, “every single false charge, every single baseless accusation is a simple attempt to get you to focus on something other than what’s affecting your family and your country.” Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, were also there to join Biden onstage.

Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin has been found in an inquiry that she abused her power as governor to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper. This is going to hurt the already struggling McCain/Palin ticket. The story is growing as I type, and I’m noticing the major media networks are in a frenzy to give you the good news. I think it’s interesting that’s it’s already huge news. Why did it take the media nearly a year to finally start talking about Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s past work with ACORN, and his radical ties?

I found this video pretty funny. I’m a regular listener to talk radio, and I heard this song on The Glenn Beck Program. It’s nationally syndicated, and the show is the third most listened to in the country. He’s a lot different than other talk show hosts because he’s more personable, and adds humor unlike others. He also has a television program every evening at 7PM and 9PM on CNN Headline News. You can get more information about him here.
If you’ve been tooling around The Drudge Report at all the last couple of days, you may have noticed near the top, a handful of links to advance previews of Oliver Stone’s latest W., his third effort at biopic-ing an American president, and the only one to have received Mr. Stone’s esteemed treatment while its subject is still in office (the first two in his triptych were JFK (1991) and Nixon (1995). The first review came from Variety‘s Todd McCarthy; the next day, The Hollywood Reporter was added to the list.

What Is The Federal Reserve Doing?!?!

When economist Milton Friedman celebrated his 90th birthday, Ben Bernanke, the current Federal Reserve Chairman, said the following:
Let me end my talk by abusing slightly my status as an official representative of the Federal Reserve System. I would like to say to Milton and Anna: Regarding the Great Depression. You’re right, we did it. We’re very sorry. But thanks to you, we won’t do it again.
We did it! Quite an admission isn’t it? Well, they did it again! Anatomy of a Crisis highlighted the policies and practices that lead to the housing bubble, and in this column I’ll discuss how it was the Federal Reserve (the FED) that made the bubble possible in the first place. The FED doesn’t manipulate the money supply directly,at least not very often, they do it by setting interest rates, altering reserve requirements (the amount of money banks must keep on deposit with the FED), and serving as a safety net for the fractional reserve banking system that I briefly discussed in “Big Trouble in Little Washington”. A fractional reserve system that couldn’t expand deposits to the extent that they do without the FED.

If Republican Presidential candidate John McCain losses the election, he deserves it. I know his new “gloves-off” approach is showing an effect, but I think it’s too late. I’ve been disappointed in McCain the last few weeks.
I thought he showed good leadership by suspending his campaign and going to Washington to be a Senator, the job we pay him to do. I thought he showed good judgment by not supporting the original bailout plan, but it all went downhill from there.

In a recent interview with FOX News, Governor Sarah Palin admitted she felt a bit “annoyed” during her criticized sit-down with Katie Couric. She told reporter Carl Cameron that Couric missed many opportunities “to ask what a V.P. candidate stands for.”
So the question is: Could Palin have handled herself differently if that discussion was conducted by a different person? Let’s see how she might have fared with Fargo‘s Police Chief Marge Gunderson (actress Frances McDormand) below:

Thanks to the wonders of the Internets, even those who weren’t able to catch the debates when they aired live (as well as those who don’t own TiVos) can still catch up on what exactly was said, without having to listen to the opinions of pundits and those in the media who may try to spin things.
We’ve got both of the dates that have happened thus far here for you. Above, the Vice Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, originally from October 2. After the break we’ve got the first Presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain. That one took place on September 26 from the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
