South Park Episodes Available On Own Site

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Cable, Internet,
Tired of piecing together videos of South Park from YouTube? Well, the creators of the show are too.
To alleviate all the wasted time spent searching, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are offering fans of the show an easier way to keep up with the series. They are now making every single episode of the program available on one site. And for free! In a joint statement, the duo said: “We got really sick of having to download our own show illegally all the time, so we gave ourselves a legal alternative.”
Although the shows are currently running ad free, expect that to change sometime in the near future. Current episodes can also be found on the site though they will experience a short blackout period.
The site (which can be found here) has already had seen several million visitors since debuting last week.

Spaced Remake Snubs Creators

Posted by Shannon Bennett Categories: Comedy, Editorial,
For fans of the original series - some of us still finding it hard to accept that there will never be a third season - the announcement that an American remake of Spaced was on the way probably didn’t raise cheers of joy.
In fact, it’s always been assumed that Granada (as it will be called) would be Americanized and Hollywoodized beyond recognition from the original genius upon which it’s based, which makes this latest piece of news all the more infuriating.
Wonderland and Warner Brothers, more specifically McG, have apparently cut Simon Pegg, Jessica (Stevenson) Hynes, and show’s director Edgar Wright out of any participation with the show, crossing lines from avoidance to clear expression that their creative input is undesired. A foolish gesture considering Pegg and Wright’s phenomenal American success with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and morally just all sorts of wrong.

Oscars up for Makeover?

Posted by Shannon Bennett Categories: Award Shows, Editorial, Gossip, Ratings,
The Oscar television audience this year hit an all-time low, and the Academy speculates that this is because the ceremony itself is beginning to feel outdated. A makeover didn’t work for the Miss America Pageant, and there was a lot more to update on that wallflower.
Variety has served up the cringe-worthy suggestion of taking a cue from the Reality Phemonenon, but that (mercifully) doesn’t seem like a likelihood. While it could be entertaining to see Streep and Dench race across a snow dune, tied to one another, carrying boiled produce in their mouths to win four points toward Best Actress, chances are it’s not going to catch on, even if statistics show that dignity is one of the damning things that makes poor Oscar seem so elderly. And the truth may be that the program can’t catch up to the “YouTube generation,” because it’s a victim of it.

Pakistan Ban of YouTube Causes Blackout

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Google, Internet, Misc. Tech,
Pakistan has decided to block YouTube from its country’s usage because of offensive Islamic content. In fact, its efforts have been blamed for the site’s Sunday two hour blackout. Owner Google claims that it was because of “erroneous internet protocols sourced” from Pakistan Telecom and its PCCW Internet provider. Anyone trying to access the site was diverted to another address. Unfortunately, other countries also felt the effect until YouTube was notified of the circumstances. Pakistan joins Turkey in its censorship, and although Thailand recently lifted its ban, some content is still blocked.

Big Brother 9: Neil Leaves Unexpectedly, Sharon Comes Back

Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Showtime, Editorial,
Tuesday night’s Big Brother 9 show was pretty much a throw away except for two slight twists to the game that the producers probably weren’t counting on.
We were told that Neil, who is paired up with mouthy Joshuah from Texas, had to leave the show for ‘urgent personal reasons’. It is still unclear exactly why the 29-year old real estate agent from California left. In his place Big Brother brought back Sharon who was evicted on the second night with her partner and ex-boyfriend Jacob.
The show sequestered Sharon and Jacob after their eviction so apparently she walked back into the house knowing nothing of what has gone on either on the show or in the real-world. Subscribers to the 24/7 live Big Brother 9 feed are obviously not surprised by this turn of events since they’ve seen Sharon walking around the Big Brother house around for days.

YouTube is Now Mobile

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News, Internet, Portable Audio / Video,
It was only a question of time. As a hint of things to come, YouTube has made a site available for cell phones. In cooperation with many of the mobile companies, such as LG, Motorola, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson, YouTube Mobile will work with 3G phones that support RTSP. Favorites, videos, channels, and personal accounts can all be accessed. In addition, you can comment, rate videos, or upload from your phone. Here again is an example one less reason to bypass your PC to become a viral video star. By the way, YouTube Mobile Java is also available for free if you live in the U.S. or UK and have a J2ME MIDP2 capable device.
