Google shows off Android 3.0
We've been hearing about Android 3.0 Honeycomb for a while now, the build of Android that would be designed with tablets in mind. Now, Google shows off it's latest version during CES, and it does appear that the UI has been redesigned in some major ways--it now fits especially well on the larger screen. Google posted a video showcasing some of the new design, which looks very different from what we've grown used to in the Android world.

Facebook now second highest traffic source for online video

Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Corporate News, Social Media, Video Services,
When it comes to online video, no one serves more data than Google, mostly through YouTube. However, the second place spot has recently been taken by Facebook. This spot used to be owned by Yahoo!, but now the social networking site has reached the second rank as a source of traffic for people watching videos online, according to a recent report from Tubemogul and Brightcove. It's still far behind Google, at 9.6% versus over 50% for the search giant. When it comes to amount of minutes watched however, surprisingly Twitter users seem to surpass Facebook, according to the report. The firms list other results like which types of media brands are most successful in the full PDF file linked below.

Find the trending YouTube videos with YouTube Trends

Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Corporate News, Google, Videos,
YouTube is the most well known name for videos online, but one thing that's been lacking is an easy way to see trending videos, and to discover what the latest memes are. This week Google introduced YouTube Trends with a fairly interesting video (see above), a service which will attempt to do just that. A new page has been created which now lists the trending videos, the ones that are making their ways across the web and which see numbers going up fast. Featured videos also display a chart that show how fast they have been gaining popularity. On top of that continously updated list, the page has a feature called "4 @ 4 PM" which are 4 videos selected at that time each day, focusing on what trended that day. Now this is not a perfect system, and as of this writing, out of the top 7 trending videos on the page, 5 of them are variations of the same one, the Metrodome Roof Collapse, but it certainly is a good place to start.

Video: Just how fast is the new MacBook Air?

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Videos,
When Apple announced the new MacBook Air, they touted the speed of the internal SSD drive, which is connected directly to the motherboard. We figured we'd check and see how true this was--after all, we use an SSD inside of a Mac Pro that's much better specced than the MacBook Air. The results were definitely surprising though, as you see in the video. Shutdown to booting up to a usable desktop took less than 14 seconds, which is something I've never gotten on my Mac Pro. That's the benefit of soldering SSD directly to the motherboard. This thing is speedy.
You can get the MacBook Air at a discount from Amazon, as they sell it for about $38 less than Apple, and ship it for free.

South Park Sued for Copying YouTube Video

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, Video,
Many South Park fans remember the 2008 “Canada on Strike” episode, which celebrated/parodied some of the Internet’s biggest YouTube sensations. The “Chocolate Rain” guy, dramatic gopher and "Star Wars kid" were all portrayed in the episode … but none of them are the one who’s suing the show.
South Park, cable network Comedy Central and parent company Viacom are being collectively sued for copyright infringement of the YouTube hit “What What (in the Butt).” The video, which has scored over 33 million views, was re-made on Park, with Butters playing the role of YouTube singer Samwell. The video above shows a comparison of the two videos, highlighting the similarities.

Become Palm’s spokesperson

Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Smartphones, Videos,
The masked maniac known previously as “The Defender” of the webOS community is back, and this time he wants to sell some phones...crazy style. Apparently, he sent in an audition tape to HP, err, Palm (or is it the other way around??) pretty much telling them that he is going to be their spokesperson. And to prove that point, he brought some clips! HPalm is really trying to get the community involved to spread the word of webOS 2.0 and the Palm Pre 2 by getting fans to post their own videos on YouTube. Palm will highlight their favorite videos, thus immortalizing you in fifteen minutes of internet stardom! Check out the masked man's own proposal above.

Twitter introduces massively redesigned website

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Design, Social Media,
We know tons of people that prefer using third-party Twitter apps because the Twitter homepage is a bit too basic, but it looks like the company just threw that line of thinking right out the window. Dubbed ‘The New Twitter,’ the Twitter website has received a much-needed overhaul, and the end result is that it looks and feels very similar to Twitter for iPad…but in a browser. Get a look at it in action in the video above. The new design is rolling out to users as we speak.
