Apple Store Bellevue Square grand re-opening excitement (video!)

We were on hand to witness Apple's grand re-opening of its Bellevue Square Apple Store, and the festivities were a sight to behold. We'll have much more info for you from the opening, including a private tour and interviews, but we thought you guys would get a kick out of seeing how Apple opened the store for the first time to hundreds of excited customers. As you'll see, Apple staff came out in full force, riling up the crowd with anticipation through cheering, high-fives, and that familiar Apple charm. Purported black matte iPhone 5 appears on video

We've already shown you how the next-generation iPhone 5 will look like in a 3D video illustration. Now, a purported black iPhone 5 with what was referred to as a back "matte" finish just debuted on YouTube. The iPhone 4S is compared to the alleged new iPhone, and the latter looks considerably thinner and taller. The dummy device even turned on and displayed the famous "Connect to iTunes" message. The guys at MacRumors have done a fantastic job at illustrating how the alleged next iPhone would look like with its new taller screen and how the aspect ratios of movies and apps would utilize and benefit from the extra display real estate. Purported leaked parts indicate that the next iPhone will adopt a 1136x640, 3.99- or 4-inch screen with a pixel count of roughly about the same as the iPhone 4 and 4S Retina display of 329dpi, give or take a pixel or two. The new logo takes a bold step in highlighting the simplicity in the Metro Windows 8-style interface that we're seeing in Windows 8, Windows Phone, Xbox 360, and more. Avatar 3D Limited Edition Blu-ray arriving October 15th

Avatar has been available in 3D on Blu-ray for years. The problem is that it's been a Panasonic exclusive, available to buyers of Panasonic 3D HDTV sets, and later to buyers of Panasonic 3D glasses as part of a bundle. Those who were left out had to forage eBay and pay a lot of money to get access to what many call the best 3D movie of all time. Now, finally, Avatar 3D Limited Edition is set to hit retail stores in October. It'll be released globall on October 15, and appear in stores in North America the following day, October 16th.
Me? I'm more excited about E.T.: The Extraterestrial coming to Blu-ray.

Apple removing YouTube from iOS 6, Google working on standalone app

Apple released iOS 6 beta 4 this morning to developers, and one change that was immediately apparent is that the YouTube app has been removed. YouTube was revealed as the final, 12th built-in app for the original iPhone shortly before its launch, and has been a part of iOS (nee iPhone OS) since the very beginning. Of course, Apple is looking to get away from relying on Google products in its operating system as evidenced by the removing of Google Maps from the mapping app.
We've received word that Google is currently working on a standalone, official YouTube app that users will be able to download from the App Store for free. All in all, we don't find this to be much of a big deal. There are plenty of Google apps that can be found in the App Store, and putting YouTube there as well makes perfect sense.

Have you ever left anything in a cab? We know plenty who've lost iPhone and Android devices, tablets, laptops, and other expensive gadgetry, but Casey Neistat accidentally left over $13,000 in expensive technology in his taxi. After going through the frustrating process of filing reports with the taxi company, making calls, and getting a police report filed, he wondered if he'd get his stuff back at all. Seriously, how likely is it that you leave something expensive in a taxi and expect to get it back? Normally the item is found by another passenger, or the taxi driver himself, and then disappears for good. Not this time.

Google Nexus 7 review

Google unveiled the Nexus 7 tablet at Google I/O 2012 (watch the keynote here,) making it the very first device to launch with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Many were waiting for Google to compete directly in the tablet space, and the 7-inch Nexus 7 is the answer. The specs show that it's a powerhouse, and the sales have been off the charts, resulting in the 16 GB Nexus 7 being sold out briefly (it's back now.) Still, many consumers have the iPad on their mind when thinking about tablets, regardless of how hard companies like Amazon and Google are pushing their alternatives. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial finally coming to Blu-ray on October 9

One movie that we've been waiting to see in high-definition is E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and we'll finally have the opportunity to watch it on Blu-ray when it's released on October 9. The 30-year Anniversary Edition includes the Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy, and Ultraviolet editions all in one package, along with hours of extras. If you wanna get even more extravagant and nostalgic about it, you can opt for the Spaceship Limited Edition, which sees the movie packed in a replica of the E.T. spaceship, which plays the infamous movie score when opened. The disc-only version can be pre-ordered on Amazon for $17.96 (49% off,) while the more elaborate Spaceship Limited Edition will go for $139. You can check out a video of that one after the break. Either way, get ready to phone home while snacking on some Reese's Pieces.

Google Nexus 7 is ridiculously hard to unbox

We cover a bunch of products in our unboxing section and on Unboxing Live, and we've gotta say that we're intrigued by how frustratingly bad the experience seems to be when trying to open up your new Google Nexus 7 tablet, made by Asus. Our unit got delayed and won't be in the office until next week, but in the meantime, check out the hard times that others have had trying to get the Nexus 7 tablet out of the box in the video compilation after the break.
