SickCity Tracks Disease

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Science,
Not long after we told you 3 ways to help you track the N1H1, we came across SickCity, a disease tracker for hypochondriacs. Not only does it list the ten sickest cities, it covers most countries. A part of the DIY City program, it uses Twitter (and soon Facebook) to collect information and make graphs with the use of algorithms. They are still working on some historical data, but it is still worth a look. Add your city if it is not already listed.

Video: Twitter in real life

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Internet, Videos,
You see, this is why we have Twitter. There are just some things that you want to share with the world, but they are things that would just be downright asinine to share in public. Instead, you do it behind the veil of your Twitter account. Don’t understand? Check the video above from CollegeHumor for a better explanation, and while you’re at it, follow me on Twitter.

Romeo Tweets for Animal Rescue

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Misc. Tech,
Romeo, a white and ginger cat, has its own Twitter following. In less than three months, he has managed to gather more than $5,000.00 in funds for animal rescue groups. Caroline Golon created the account for her 5 year-old Persian, who is himself a rescue cat. He had hearing issues and had to go through several surgeries, resulting in one limp ear. Still, we are glad to hear that Twitter can be used this way and that two national companies not only back him but contribute to the causes he

tweets about.

Twitter Kicks: Our readers send us pics of their kicks

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Site Features, Men, Women, Footwear, Sneakers,
A couple of days ago, we hit up the Chic Dish Twitter account and asked our followers to send in a picture of the kicks that they were wearing at that very moment. It was an experiment, and if 20 responses came in, we would have given a $20 Zappos gift certificate away randomly to one of the submitters. Unforunately, we only got 17 submissions, so no giveaway on this one—however, we are going to do this regularly, so be on the lookout, and be sure to follow Chic Dish on Twitter.
That said, we had a great time checking out the submissions, all of which you can find after the jump, along with the Twitter user who sent it in. Go take a look, and let us know what you think - any favorites?
Edit: Okay, we are getting a few questions about the roll of toilet paper in the above photo—we checked with @pinksage, and apparently, she has “the sniffles” and was too lazy, or broke (have you seen the economy lately), to do it up right and grab a box of Kleenex.

SVU Loses Another ADA, Possibly Lead Stars

Law & Order: SVU may be accustomed to changes, but departures don’t usually happen so quickly.
After less than one season on the long-running NBC series, actress Michaela McManus (Kim Greylek) is already out. The former One Tree Hill star joined the program when the show’s last ADA, Casey Novak (actress Diane Neal), left the prosecutor’s office due to controversy.
Greylek, who was sent away to Washington D.C. last month, saw her job temporarily filled by Alexandra Cabot (actress Stephanie March), the former assistant district attorney. Now it appears Kim will be gone for good. Michaela sent the following message to her Twitter followers on March 28: “Will no longer be on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but would like to thank my fans for supporting me.”
Although it’s unclear whether March will be taking back her role permanently, the vet is scheduled to appear in another four episodes this season.

Oprah hits Twitter, Shaq isn’t amused

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Sports, Television, Rivalries,

Twitter users have been bracing for impact ever since news broke that Oprah Winfrey had joined and would publish her first tweet today, during a taping of her show. That initial message came through, revealing that Oprah wasn’t completely up to snuff on netiquette. Her initial post was an all-caps message, as she referred to her followers as “TWITTERS.” Now, Shaquille O’Neal has been on Twitter for quite a while, and has called out celebrities for using ghost writers and for other lacks of transparency on the service. When it came to Oprah, he had to call out her caps usage. Shaq is the man.

Jamie Foxx Issues Apology to Miley Cyrus

UPDATE: You can hear Billy Ray Cyrus’ response here.
Miley Cyrus may have been the one who did the initial complaining, but Jamie Foxx was the one who ended up saying sorry.
Days after ripping into the teen queen, The Soloist actor publicly apologized for his words on The Tonight Show. The move was a result of a conversation on his Sirius radio program, The Foxxhole, this past Sunday.
Jamie and his crew were commenting on Miley’s dispute with her (previously) favorite band, Radiohead. The 16-year-old had hoped to meet the group members when they both attended the recent Grammys. Unfortunately, Cyrus’ manager was told that they “really don’t do that.” After being turned down by the musicians, Miley refused to watch their performance and later bitched about them during her own radio interview.

Is Mariah Carey Pregnant…or Just a Bad Dresser?

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Clothing, Fashion Police,

The minute Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon wed, the pregnancy rumors have come non-stop. Thankfully, the singer has a list of explanations ready for every occasion. (Why wouldn’t she sip champagne with Ellen Degeneres last fall? Because she doesn’t drink before 3 pm.)
So what’s Carey’s excuse for the recent speculation? A poor clothing decision.
