T-Mobile Fav 5 outed on SNL

While T-Mobile‘s Fav 5 might sound like a fantastic idea, we’ve all known somewhere deep, deep down, that it could only spell disaster. It took SNL to finally pin it down, and share with the nation why everyone should be very careful with who they choose to put on their five. Oh, and don’t even get us started on the MySpace Top 8. Be afraid.

T-Mobile 3G If you are a T-Mobile customer and happen to live in Vegas, you will be happy to know that T-Mo’s 3G network just launched in your region. So, if your phone is capable is hitting up 3G speeds, get ready for a nice, enhanced speed boost. For all the rest of you on T-Mobile, we know it sucks that only NYC and Vegas get 3G, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as the company expects to drop 3G on another 20 markets before the end of the year, along with a few new phones to take advantage of it all.

AT&T and Starbucks to Share America

Starbucks Coffee It seems that coffee isn’t compatible with T-Mobile USA. AT&T will begin to distribute WiFi to 7,000 Starbucks in the U.S. Beginning sometime this spring, if you are an AT&T U-verse customer, you can get unlimited access. Starbucks Card holders get 2 hours a day free of charge. There are subscription and other deals available to allow access to its other 70,000 global “hot spots.” They will also be upgrading Starbucks’ network with a more extensive bandwidth.

My Top Five Super Bowl Commercials

Nokia 6263 Can Talk to Your Computer

Nokia 6263 Nokia has announced its new 6263 available through T-Mobile. The clamshell has a 2.2-inch, 16 million color QVGA display, an XHTML brower that can handle your e-mail, support for Java, Flash Lite and Bluetooth, and can be synced to your computer with its PC Suite software. It also features a 1.3 megapixel cam with video recorder, an FM tuner, and can hold up to 350 music tracks with its 512MB memory. The 6263 has a battery that can handle up to 3 1/3 hours of talk time or over 11 days of standby.

Some Sidekicks Don’t Slide

Motorola and T-Mobile have announced that there are some serious issues with some of their Sidekick Slides. Apparently when the feature is activated, the device may reboot or turn off. No need to worry if you own an LX or iD model, but anyone trying to purchase one of the faulty ones will find a “temporarily available” on T-Mobile’s site. Contact T-Mobile online or hit your nearest retail store if you are having any problems with your Sidekick.

Shadow Comes Out of the Dark

The T-Mobile Shadow launched this week, the first in a series of mobile devices that are meant to be simplified for those who are telephonically challenged. Designed by HTC, the phone has the usual calling, image sharing, and text messaging capabilities. In addition, it features the simplicity of Windows Mobile and an updated interface. Available in copper or sage, find it online or at retail stores for $199.99 with a voice-plan or $149.99 with $20.00 per month and a 2 year contract.

Blackberry Facebook Goes Mobile

Purple Sonic RIM has released Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones. Announced at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment show in San Francisco this week, T-Mobile will be the first to utilize the software application. You can do everything that Facebook offers including sending and viewing messages, instant message notification, poking, making new friends, and uploading. You can also set a unique ringtone alert. Free to download, remember that data charges may apply. By the way, our DIY purplish Sonic was made in one of Facebook’s applications. That’s reason enough to sign up.

Sidekick LX to Be Released

October 24 has been chosen as the debut date of the new T-Moblie Sidekick LX. The new cell phone is thinner and has a larger HD LCD swivel screen than its predecessors. Available in midnight blue or espresso brown, it features picture messaging, IM, a cam, web browsing and e-mail capabilities, and a custom designed MySpace Mobile application can be downloaded. Check with T-Mobile for price and contract requirements or register with the site to keep informed about the Sidekick’s coming out party.

Teen Unlocks iPhone

George Hotz decided to spend some time this summer unlocking an iPhone, so that he use it on his own network, T-Mobile. Partially inspired because his friend had just gotten one, the change of service fee, and the $20.00 monthly fee from AT&T for using an iPhone, he soldered two wires together and replaced the SIM card, although we are sure that the project is more complicated than he makes it sound in this CNBC video. It took about 500 hours to complete with the aid of four others online.

Being the kind fellow that he is, rather than selling his idea, he has posted it for free on his website, just in case you want to give it a try. Although he planned on selling one hacked iPhone on eBay, complications arose so he traded it for a Nissan 350Z and three 8GB iPhones. George left this weekend to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology where he will major in neuroscience or what he calls “hacking the brain.”
