Forrester: E-book sales to hit $1 billion this year

Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Corporate News,

Research firm Forrester has released some numbers on E-book sales for the year, and they're betting that this is the first year where e-book sales will reach close to $1 billion. They also say that by 2015, that amount will pass the $3 billion mark. The survey questioned 4,000 people and indicated that more and more people get their books in digital form. While only 7% read books in e-book format now, they spend a lot of money on them, and that figure will continue to grow. It seems the most popular device to read e-books on is the desktop computer, followed by the Amazon Kindle, Apple iPhone and Sony eReader.

Breaking Controversy: Jackson Family Refuting New Michael Songs

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Artist News, Gossip, Upcoming Releases, Pop,

TMZ is reporting that some members of the Jackson family are skeptical of the songs featured on the newest Michael Jackson album.

The gossip site says that the family thinks the singing doesn’t sound like Michael’s voice. Mom Katharine Jackson is scheduled to appear on Oprah Monday, but it’s not known whether or not she’ll address the album controversy.

Paparazzi recently caught up to LaToya Jackson to get her take on the situation. The singer/actress was very quiet and polite as she climbed into a taxi, telling the paps “I listened to it…It doesn’t sound like him.” LaToya was referring to the “Breaking News” single, recently released by Sony as a teaser for the upcoming album.

View TMZ’s video of LaToya’s comments, then listen to the song for yourself to decide what you think.

Is this the Playstation Phone, or a new platform altogether?

Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Handhelds, Rumors,

Playstation phone z-system

Earlier this week Engadget came out with some exclusive pictures and various facts about what everyone is now calling the Sony Playstation Phone. However, there are many details that indicate that this can't be a so called "PSP Phone". Some of those details, like the fact that it's running Android, came out right at the front. Since the PSP isn't running on Android, that means each game would need to be converted or ported over, which seems unlikely.

Another such detail came out today, and that is the platform that this new phone seems to be using, something called "Z-System". There isn't much known about it yet, but several people have pointed to the label in one of the leaked shots, and it does seem to indicate that this is Sony's attempt at starting a new platform. Whether it will be successful is a matter of debate, but it's obvious that Sony is struggling with the mobile Playstation brand, as the PSP and PSP Go haven't exactly been runaway hits. Maybe a phone that runs ports of Playstation Portable titles on an Android device running the Z-System layer is just the kick in the pants that they need?

Sony finally stops making casette Walkmans

Sony stops Walkman production

Remember those big boxy things that you wore on your hip, and had to open up every twenty minutes or so to turn over the thingy inside so the good tunes didn’t stop? Yeah, me either. But the Japanese may have a harder time letting go, as it seems that Sony is just now getting around to ceasing production of the cassette Walkman in the far east. Sony will stop selling cassette Walkmans in Japan when the current supply runs dry sometime around April. However, China will still see the production of Sony brand Walkmans, but they will probably be few and far between. Now, let's all bow our heads and finally lay the cassette Walkman down to rest.

Sony cautions gamers that their controllers may explode

exploding controller

is warning consumers of knock-off controllers that look identical to the first party controllers, as they may be prone to exploding or igniting.

“SCEA advises consumers to be cautious when buying PlayStation 3 wireless controllers from uncertain sources as the quality, reliability and safety of counterfeit products is uncertain, and in some cases, may be dangerous.
