Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,
Sony is working on an impressive smartphone in the Xperia i1 (codename: Honami,) with specs starting to leak. ePrice reports that the Xperia i1 boasts an incredible 20.7 megapixel ExmorRS camera with Sony Bionz image processing. That, in and of itself, though not quite Lumia 1020 territory, is pretty beast. Add to that a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor and 5-inch 1080p display, and you've got yourself something worthy of being the next Sony flagship smartphone. We'll find out more at IFA in September, where Sony will undoubtedly show off its new wares.

Apple has two major record labels signed for iRadio streaming service
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Music, Rumors,
According to The New York Times, Apple is going full-force in negotiations with record labels in an effort to get its new streaming music service (which many refer to as iRadio) in position to be announced, and possibly launched, at WWDC next week. The report states that Apple has already signed deals with both the Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group for rights to recorded music and publishing. The holdout is Sony Music Entertainment, which seems to want a bigger cut of the profits. Of course, if Apple can convince Sony to sign, then its music service will be stocked with all the popular music users will expect, without any glaring holes.
There are no solid details on Apple's streaming service, and there won't be until it is formally announced by the company itself. That said, rumors point to it being similar in vein to Pandora, rather than a Spotify/Rdio competitor. In other words, it will be a radio service rather than one where you get to pick and choose exactly which track(s) you want to listen to at a given moment. The service would be supported by iAd, with advertisements interspersed into the listening experience, like Pandora.
Fingers crossed for WWDC!

Solange Knowles Launching Record Label

Solange Knowles is launching her own record label. The singer has taken inspiration from her big sister Beyonce's husband Jay-Z by setting up her own label Saint Records under Sony's umbrella, allowing her to release her own music with complete creative freedom as well as promoting other artists.
Solange announced the news on Twitter, posting, "Big news day for me! Wasn't ready to announce, but since false info is spreading I will gladly do so:) Supppppperr EXCITED! Super stoked to announce I've started my own label,SAINT RECORDS,where I'll be releasing my music & other projects distributed through SONY! Through Saint Records I will have 100% creative/artistic control & continue to passionately pursue my footing in this new musical movement. (sic)"
Solange, 26, previously switched from major label Universal to go independent with her 2012 EP True, which was released via Terrible Records, co-run by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor. She decided to make the news of her new business venture public after hearing rumors she was supposedly signing to Columbia records, which is owned by Sony.

Jimmy Fallon gets first Playstation 4 hands-on [Video!]
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: First Person Shooters, PlayStation 4, Sony,
Jimmy Fallon was the first to go be able to actually play the Playstation 4, live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon got first impressions of the DualShock 4 controller that includes the touchpad and share button functionality, and got to play some Killzone: Shadow Fall with Hermen Hulst, Managing Director of Guerilla Games. As you can see, neither Jimmy, nor guest Anthony Anderson, were that impressive, but they make up for it with some laughs.
Sony introduced the world to the Playstation 4 the other day, but didn't allow anyone to go hands-on with the console. Instead, we were treated to a bunch of video packages and demos showing just how great everything would be. Heck, Sony didn't even show the actual console itself, citing that it's "just a box" and in the grand scheme of things, isn't as important as the experience itself.
Check out the video below for a look at the segment.

PlayStation 4 reportedly introduces ‘new styles of play’
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: PlayStation 4, Rumors, Sony,
While Sony Computer Entertainment is readying its unveil of the PlayStation 4 on February 20, we'll have to take what we can get in the meantime. This little kernel of information, however, might say a lot about what to expect (and not expect) on the 20th.
According to an anonymous SCE official, the PS4 will try its hand at becoming more of a home entertainment hub than ever before, and that its main selling point will be its new styles of play. It seems Sony might be taking a cue from Nintendo, focusing on outside-the-box innovation, rather than just internal hardware specs.
As a home entertainment "nerve center," the PS4 will emphasize the ability to connect and share with mobile devices, perhaps through cloud-based gaming. The console is reportedly going to release by the end of the year.

Sony will unleash the PlayStation 4 on February 20
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, PlayStation 4, Sony,
Sony is set to reveal the PlayStation 4 in less than three weeks, on February 20th. According to The Wall Street Journal, not only will we get a look at the PS4 and a rundown of all the new features, which include "more social gaming aspects" and "changes in how users interact with the machine," but gamers can expect to be able to pick up the new PlayStation later this year.
As for the console itself, not much is known--what we do know is that it will likely be powered by an AMD CPU and GPU, which could prove difficult for PS3 backwards compatibility, since the PS3 is powered by Sony's Cell processor. Additionally, although Sony considered shipping the PlayStation 4 without an optical drive, the Blu-ray drive will still be present, because the company believes that games are too big, and broadband not yet fast enough, to rely on hard drive storage and digital downloads.
We'll have all the info for you on the 20th!

Bob Dylan’s Rare Album
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Folk, Rock, New Releases,
Bob Dylan has produced just 100 copies of his new album.
The 71-year-old singer's record label, Sony, decided to create the super-limited edition four-CD album, entitled The 50th Anniversary Collection, to avoid losing control of the songs under European Union copyright rules. The album features 86 live tracks and studio outtakes recorded by Dylan in 1962-63, including a previously unheard version of his classic "Blowin' In The Wind."
According to sources at Sony, the compilation isn't really meant for mass consumption and is just an attempt to keep the tracks from entering the public domain. "This isn't a scheme to make money. The whole point of copyrighting [this material] is that we intend to do something with it at some point in the future. But it wasn't the right time to do it right after [Dylan] released Tempest," a source explained to Rolling Stone.
The 100 copies have been sent to specialist record collector shops in Britain, Germany, France and Sweden, and the rare item is already being sold for $1,600 on eBay.
Google Trends shows Microsoft’s next Xbox is already beating Playstation 4
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Culture, PlayStation 3, Sony, Xbox, Xbox 360,
We trust Google with a lot of things: we trust that it will be there for us when our memory fails and that it will find the best information for us. Can we trust it to predict the future for us too? Well, the future of consumer electronics at least.
Based on Google Trends searches, Microsoft's next generation system is poised to take down Sony's next Playstation console. Google Trends previously held the data that showed the winner of the high-def DVD race, as Blu-ray yielded more search results than HD DVD films. This time, news site Ludos Mundi used Google Trends to discover whose winning the next-gen popularity contest, and found users search "Xbox 720" about 60 percent of the time, compared to searches for "PS4" that occur 40 percent of the time.
You can use Google Trends yourself to see the data. Simply compare "Xbox 720" and "PS4" using the Forecast feature.
