American Idol 7: Atlanta Auditions

The American Idol machine stopped in Atlanta, the very last city on the tour, perhaps in hopes of finding another Carrie Underwood, Clay Aiken or Jennifer Hudson. Instead, they found singers like Alexandrea Lushington, Amanda Overmyer and Brooke Helvie - and I have a strong feeling we’re going to see much more of at least one of these girls.

Heath Ledger Autopsy Results

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Obituaries, Rumors,
Approximately two weeks after Heath Ledger’s passing, we now officially know the cause of death. The 28-year-old actor died from an accidental overdose.
The initial autopsy finished shortly after the Jan. 22nd event proved inconclusive. The New York City Medical Examiner needed to perform toxicology and tissue tests for a definitive answer.
“Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine. We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications.”
Although police believed the death may have been drug-related, no illegal substances were ever found in the home. Ledger only possessed bottles of prescription pills. Several of the the drugs factored in his death are used as painkillers; others were taken for sleeping and anti-anxiety.

Interview With Martin McDonagh and Colin Farrell of ‘In Bruges’

Last week, FilmCrunch had the opportunity to interview Martin McDonagh and Colin Farrell, director and star of the upcoming film In Bruges.
Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson) are two hitmen sent to the Belgian city of Bruges after a botched job in London. They’ve been told by their boss, Harry (Ralph Fiennes), to do some sight-seeing, lie low and await further instruction. But the city, full of ancient architecture and historical landmarks, can’t satiate Ray and his need for distraction. The men venture out and soon discover that beneath the city’s quaint exterior lies a strange and disturbing underbelly, a surreal setting that causes them to begin to question life and death, right and wrong, and the purpose behind their little “vacation.”

Review: In Bruges

Posted by Johnny Mercedes Categories: FOCUS, Action, Adventure, Drama, Foreign, Independent, Comedy, New Releases, Upcoming Releases, Theatrical Reviews,

I love when I come into a film having preconceptions, and they are totally obliterated and replaced with the feeling that I’ve found something unique, something I was unable to foresee. That may seem a bit dramatic—In Bruges is, after all, a fairly linear story. But writer/director Martin McDonagh injects a dark, reflective tone into what could’ve easily been a talk-‘em-up, shoot-‘em-up Guy Ritchie film; those who’ve seen the trailer know what I mean. And while Ritchie films are appealing in their own right, In Bruges deviates significantly, exhibiting characters who somehow transcend their quick wit and hardened exteriors to reveal—much like the city itself—great history and depth.

They’ve been told by their boss, Harry (Ralph Fiennes), to do some sight-seeing, lie low and await further instruction. But the city, full of ancient architecture and historical landmarks, can’t satiate Ray and his need for distraction. The job-gone-wrong had been Ray’s first assignment as hitman, but the unspeakable mess left in London is but a slight snag for long-timer Ken, numb to the violence of his profession.

Late Night War Ends in Violence

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Talk Shows, Cable, NBC, Gossip, Video,
Well after American Gladiators finished for the evening, when most people were thinking about getting to bed, the battle of the late night hosts began to heat up…again. Let’s re-cap.
Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert took exception to NBC host Conan O’Brien’s claim that O’Brien “made” Presidential contender Mike Huckabee. Conan responded on his show that he, O’Brien, actually made Colbert. Daily Show host Jon Stewart offered video evidence that in fact Stewart made O’Brien. Thus, the world was put to rights again.
Until a certain redhead (O’Brien) presented a photo depicting himself delivering both Colbert and Stewart, thus proving that he in fact made them both - and by extension, Huckabee. For those who missed it, this battle all came to head last night. Conan threatened to “kick some Comedy Central ass” and so, Stewart and Colbert showed up to give him exactly this opportunity. (You can see the video clip, after the jump.)

Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip,
Since 1995, Vanity Fair has been churning out legendary covers tipping its hat to Hollywood. And year after year, photographer Annie Leibovitz has been counted on to produce those stunning and memorable images. Remember the one with Tom Ford and the two nude ladies (Scarlett Johannson and Keira Knightley)? How about the cover with Uma, Kate and Cate?
This season, the magazine will honor the ‘Fresh Faces of 2008’:

Those pictured include: Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada), Amy Adams (Enchanted), Jessica Biel (The Illusionist), Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada), Alice Braga (I Am Legend), Ellen Page (Juno), Zoë Saldana (Vantage Point), Elizabeth Banks (Fred Claus), Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love), and America Ferrera (Ugly Betty).
Make note of these ladies. Some of their careers will soar, while others will become faded segments of Vanity Fair’s history (e.g. Fairuza Balk, Jordana Brewster, Edward Furlong, Johnathon Schaech).

My Top Five Super Bowl Commercials

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Sports, FOX, Video,
Sadly, there were very few moments from last night’s Super Bowl that I will remember in the weeks to come. (That is, of course, not including the wild game itself.) But here are five commercials that did give me a good chuckle:
Update: These (really) were not placed in any particular order.
1) The Doritos ‘Mouse Trap’ commercial

MONDAY (2/4)
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): Series premiere. “A Hollywood wunderkind in a career slump is persuaded by his friend to move into his famous Tinseltown apartment building with an eclectic group of tenants.” Eclectic = show gone soon.
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 9pm): “John discovers the figure may be bleaker than he imagined.” I’m confused. If he’s currently in 2007, he should have already seen what the future looks like in Rise of the Machines.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 9:30): Season Three premiere. “Christine gets overly nervous about sleeping with Mr. Harris (Blair Underwood) for the first time.” I think I already saw this episode…..on Sex and the City.
- Late Night With David Letterman (CBS, 11:30): Hillary Clinton sits down with the talk show host. Any woman who can make us forget Paris Hilton deserves to be President.
