Show Tunes Night on American Idol

Top 6 Idols with Andrew Lloyd Webber

The presence of Andrew Lloyd Webber on means one thing: show tunes. To create the right effect for this momentous night, the band section was extended to accommodate an orchestra and the contestants were forced to sing outside the usual Idol box. Who was able to pull it off…and who couldn’t get off the stage fast enough?

After the Top 6 Idols were introduced, the show paid homage to the composer who has meant so much to both screen and stage. For their master class with Lord Webber, the contestants were treated to a visit to the Phantom of the Opera theater. took a different approach to mentorship than last week’s Mariah Carey. He focused on the meaning behind the song and the emotional connections each singer need to make. Were they all able to follow the advice?

Before the night truly began, declared “this is probably gonna be the toughest night of the season.” Simon Cowell advised that contestants should sound “memorable, but also contemporary.”

Star Jones and Al Reynolds Divorcing

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Divorce,

Al Reynolds, Star JonesIn early March, the National Enquirer reported that Star Jones and Al Reynolds were on the road to Splitsville.  After nearly 3 1/2 years of marriage, Star was supposedly getting tired of doing all the “heavy lifting” in the marriage.

Now almost 2 months later, Jones has finally admitted that the buzz was true.  On March 26, the former View co-host filed for divorce in New York.  In a statement issued exclusively to Entertainment Tonight, she said:

“Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life.  A month ago I filed for divorce.  The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone’s life that requires privacy with one’s thoughts.  I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman.”

So now she wants privacy?  I’d love to hear what has to say about that.

Windows XP SP3 to be released on April 29th

Windows XP SP3Man, April is just shaping up to bring us all sorts of goodness - Wii, , and now Windows XP SP3. Don’t get me wrong, I sure as hell am not saying that XP SP3 will be anywhere near as enjoyable as two of the biggest console game releases of the year, but seriously, if those rumors about a 10 percent speed increase hold true, that is just one more reason to stick with XP over . Look for WIndows XP SP3 in the Microsoft Download Center, as well as Microsoft Update, on April 29th.

Could There Be a Third X-Files Movie?

X-Files MovieIt seems repeating the new title enough times could get you more than one sequel.  It might get you two.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, said there’s a chance we’ll be seeing more of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the future.  If things work out favorably at this summer’s box office, the show’s creator would like to move forward with a third installment.  One that might possibly fare better with those who have been long-time devotees of the series.

While this upcoming release is intended to serve as a stand-alone feature, a new film would most likely touch on the alien abduction theme that was central to the FOX program.  But if fans would like to see that idea come to life, they must first support July 25’s debut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

More Sexy Photos of Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

UPDATE:  You can read Miley’s apology for these photos here.

Okay, here we go again.  Three months ago, we told you about a set of photos showing teen star Miley Cyrus in various states of undress.  Now a new trio of pics have been spreading across the internet.

While the shots still (thankfully) show the singer while she is clothed, they’re still awfully racy for a 15-year-old girl…especially one who’s supposed to be a smart role model.  The tamest photo - the one I felt less icky about posting - can be seen above.  (You can catch a glimpse of the other two here and her older set here.)

My question is:  Why hasn’t there been more of a stink made about this?  I think I heard more people talk about Miley’s missing seat belt in her recent Hannah Montana movie!

This Week on TV (4/21-4/27)

Ugly Betty, America Ferrera

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (4/21)
  • Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm):  New episode.  “A dethroned Blair musters up the strength to head back to school, and Jenny tries to keep up with the financial demands of the in-crowd.”  Mondays are always better when other people are miserable.
  • Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm):  George Bush provides support to a war vet going for the million.  After three tours in Iraq, the President figured it was the least he could do.
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30):  If you can’t handle the thought of humming a tune about sandcastles over and over again, this might not be the episode for you.
  • The Bachelor: London (ABC, 10pm):  “Matt accompanies Amanda, Chelsea, Noelle and Shayne to their hometowns.”  Being allowed to live in the U.S. takes more than just a sham marriage.  It means faking it with her family too.

Hollywood’s All-Time Low: Quarantine

[Rec] American remake is titled QuarantineWe all know that Hollywood rapes any movie they see as potential blockbuster meat, remaking any and every thing they possibly can. I never would have guessed, however, that they would go so low as to remake a film that was made just last year and has not even been released in the U.S. yet!

Yes, that’s right, a 2007 Spanish movie by the name of [Rec] already has an American remake that is due out this October, titled Quarantine. Both films follow an ambitious newswoman and her cameraman, off to cling to a story that does not end well.

The trailer for Quarantine, which you can see after the jump, has sparked quite some outrage, as fans are unimpressed by the , claiming it is a bad combination of 28 Days Later and Cloverfield. I personally am choosing not to support this atrocity, yet I know that Hollywood wins these battles because people go to see movies to see movies, no matter how unoriginal it is. If it looks remotely decent, anyone with ten dollars seems to jump on a movie like this.

Stand up in the fight against unoriginality, yes?

Britney Spears Returns to How I Met Your Mother

Britney Spears, How I Met Your Mother

Even though Sarah Connor has managed to get itself off the renewal bubble, there’s a list of others shows out there still aiming to get their golden tickets.

Believing there’s nothing wrong with a bit of promotional overkill, How I Met Your Mother will be looking to once again milk something out of their celebrity cash cow.  (No pun intended.)  According to People, a source reports that will indeed make another appearance on the comedy.  Her first stint on the CBS series helped give the show its highest ratings ever.

Now if this latest publicity stunt doesn’t get the network to renew HIMYM once and for all, I don’t know what will.  Will Jason Segel need to go full frontal?  I’ve seen .  I know he’d do it.

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 3 and 4

LeBron driving past Chris KamanLBJ and his Cavs got the job done against the Washington Wizards in game one of their first round series. Confidence should be admired, but adding fuel to the fire against someone like LeBron seems like risky business. Just ask Chris Bosh’s girlfriend.

Let’s recap the opening two games and set up the two-on-two matches for the upcoming week.
