Lookin’ Good with Griffin’s Reflect iPod Case

Griffin Reflect iPod Case Yes, there are myriad iPod cases out there with all kinds of bells and whistles, but if you’re as vain as we are, boy have we got a case for you. It’s the Griffin Reflect, a polycarbonate shell with a mirrored chrome finish. The cool part? When the backlight shuts off, the display disappears so only the wheel shows—and the case is now a handy mirror! Fortunately, the Reflect also has a matte rubberized back to prevent slippage. Available for 2G nano, 5G and SanDisk Sansa for $24.99 USD. Apparently we’re not the only ones diggin’ ourselves, as the Reflect is currently on backorder.

We look at SanDisk’s first PMP, the Sansa View in this episode. The device has a 4-inch widescreen 640x480 display, and 8 GB embedded flash memory which provides for about 16 full-length movies. Even better, it has a full-size SD slot so you can add another 8 GB of memory to the unit. It’s also extremely thin, and feels great in the hand. It gets about 4 hours of video playback, and has a removeable battery, allowing you to add a higher power battery if you like. Available in March for $299 USD.

Description SanDisk’s Sansa View comes with 8GB of flash memory and the ability to output at up to 1080i when it’s not playing back video (of various, capable codecs, though we don’t have specifics yet) on its 4-inch screen. Expect up to 4 hours of video playback and around 10 hours of audio, basic PlaysForSure support and a $299 price tag come later Q1 when it’s released.

We’ll try for some hands-on time if we can track one down on the show floor.

MP3 Goes Down the Toilet

I love my son, he cracks me up at the most unexpected times and the other day he had Andru almost rolling on the floor laughing so hard at his 12 year-old antics. He received a new Sansa Mp3 player for Christmas from his father, it wasn't like the $10 Walkmans he was used to buying or receiving in the past, as he is getting older and becoming more responsible, his father spent a little more money on something a 12 year-old would appreciate. Tom took very good care of it, I have to give him credit, he put it away very nicely in the velvet sleeve it came in once he was through listening to it - so maybe it was worth the cost. This is where the humor comes in, the other day, he comes upstairs, very upset, carrying his Mp3 in his hand and I ask what was so terribly wrong. He goes on to explain that he had his Mp3 in his sweatshirt pocket as he was going to the bathroom, and when he stood up to flush, it so gracefully plopped into the toilet, scaring him to death as he thought some wild animal had just jumped in. In Napoleon Dynamite fashion he utters loudly "Dang it!" as his very new Mp3 had fallen in a toilet full of poo. His words. I asked him what the heck was he doing with the Mp3 player in his pocket while sitting on the toilet, knowing that it was a recipe for disaster. He replies, " I wanted to listen to music while I pooed." OK I guess that was a logical answer...heck if everyone else reads while they poo, why not bop to some tunes? Before any more questions were asked I immediately said, "Get a plastic baggie, put it inside, and STOP HOLDING IT-- GROOOSS!"

Sandisk Introduces Sansa c200 Series

Sandisk has unveiled a new Sansa c200 series entry level mp3 player to supersede the c100 series released earlier this year. The new Sandisk C-series is 1.3” x 3.1” x 0.6” in size and weighs in at 1.51oz including the battery. The full color display measures 1.4” diagonal and displays album, artist and song info, as well as digital photos. The user-replaceable battery supplies around 15hrs use. The unit comes equipped with a microSD slot for expansion beyond the internal flash and features an FM tuner/recorder with 20 presetns and a voice recorder. Supported audio formats include MP3, WMA and protected WMA DRM, as well as other Audible formats. The player uses a standard USB 2.0 interface for transfers.

The Sansa c200 series comes in two flavors, the c240 with 1GB internal flash and the c250 with 2GB internal flash. They are competitively priced at $79.99 and $99.99 respectively.

SanDisk Launches Sansa e280 8GB Flash-based DAP

Sansa e280 With so many purported “iPod killers” these days, one wonders if any company will ever be able to take down the legendary iPod line. SanDisk, a distant second to Apple in the portable music player market, announced a new member to their Sansa line on Monday, the e280. The e280 Sansa player offers 8GB of storage with a built-in microSD slot for an additional 2GB. At a starting price of around $250, roughly equal to that of the high-end nano, the new Sansa poses a potential problem for Apple by offering a product with a similar form factor with many enhancements. The lower-end versions of the Sansa player also received price cuts.

These upgrades are intended to help boost the company’s market share, which currently hovers around 10%; however, SanDisk is a top supplier of flash based storage and has a distinct advantage over Apple in terms of pricing. Their new releases come at a time when speculation about a revised iPod nano with larger storage, among other features, is at an all-time high. Regardless, it remains to be seen if SanDisk can in fact depose Apple.
