It would appear that BlackBerry App World will soon be arriving. Although it is not open yet, you can register now to know when it will be available. Purchasing must be made through PayPal, so you had best sign up for that, too. The requirements are that your smartphone must have an operating system of 4.2 or higher and have a trackball or SurePress touchscreen. RIM is also calling for applications so if you come up with one, let them know.

Apple Passes RIM And Becomes Number 2 Smartphone Maker

iphone 3g An analyst has confirmed that Apple has made it to number 2 where smartphone vendors are concerned. The iPhone has become a holder of 17.3 percent of the market share with RIM trailing at 15.2 percent. Apple also came in with the highest marks in customer satisfaction, operation, physical design, operating system, battery aspects, and features. RIM could bounce back to the 2nd place mark with the Bold and Storm, but with the growing sales of iPhone and the “coolness” of the Apple brand, it will certainly be a challenge for RIM. The results are due to the 6.9 million iPhones shipped during the summer months with no signs of slowdown even though the economy has moved in the other direction.

Description The new BlackBerry Bold, which was released yesterday, is suddenly coming to Wal-Mart at an amazing price: FREE.

Billed as the BlackBerry Bold Unlimited, the catch to this seemingly great deal is that you have to sign on with a two-year contract, at least a 1350 minute talk plan and unlimited text messaging, on top of the required BlackBerry data plan – not a bad deal if you talk and text that much anyway. The deal is through LetsTalk, if you’d like to skip the middleman and order direct from them.

BlackBerry Bold launching on AT&T at $299 on November 4

By now, you have probably seen the new BlackBerry Bold Commercial, the one that says almost nothing but “wow.” Wow again at the proposed price when it comes out. AT&T has announced that the RIM device will cost $299.99 with a 2 year contract, more than they charge for the iPhone. Sales should begin around November 4 to welcome in the upcoming holidays. The Bold will support international navigation services and Wi-fi for folks who do a lot of traveling. One analyst, Chris King of Stifel Nicolas, says the appeal will be mostly exec types. Those that can probably will.

RIM Blackberry Pearl 8220

BlackBerry 8220 RIM has announced the flip version of its BlackBerry Pearl. At a size of 3.98 x 1.97 x .69-inches and a weight of 3.6 oz., the 8220 smartphone features video and music player, a 2 megapixel cam with flash, WiFi, video streaming, and Web browser. The handheld also has an abridged keyboard with SureType technology and Spellcheck. Look for it sometime this fall, with T-Mobile as the U.S. carrier.

By the way, Co-CEO of RIM, Jim Balsillie, said that 70% of mobile phone users in the U.S. use a flip phone. That seems reason enough for us.

JetBlue testing In-flight email and IM

JetBlue Airbus A320 It’s no secret that the airline industry has spared no expense in terms of inflight entertainment, from iPod connectivity to DirecTV channels to interactive gaming and more. But secretly, we bet many of you just want to catch up emails and chat via Instant Message…right? Well JetBlue is on the case: starting today, one of its A320 planes will be equipped with Wi-Fi. Yahoo! and Wi-Fi-enabled Blackberry users will be able to read email and IM their buddies during flights. And you know this is only the beginning: for better or worse, we’re sure in a few short years we’ll be able to surf the ‘net from our laptops while flying the friendly skies. Cool….

Blackberry Hits 10 Million Mark

Blackberry 8820 Blackberry devotees, take heart. The Canadian firm Research in Motion claims a net profit of $287.7 million through September 1, as opposed to the same period in 2006, in which they made $140.2 million during the second quarter. The company claims that the jump was due to new global users that helped it beat the 10 million mark, as it added another 1.45 million subscribers. RIM believes that their profits will continue to rise and beat their market targets for the rest of year.

Research in Motion Unveils BlackBerry 8800

With all the cell phones and smartphones out there flaunting the latest innovations, choosing the right one can be a daunting process. Research in Motion just made that decision even harder (or perhaps easier depending on your view) when it introduced the new BlackBerry 8800 at the 3GSM World Congress, a showcase for state-of-the-art wireless devices. While targeted toward the corporate crowd, the 8800—the slimmest corporate Blackberry yet—includes such consumer-friendly features as a media player that supports MP3 and AAC audio as well as MPEG-4 and H.263 encoded video files, and a microSD slot for music and video storage. The smartphone also contains a QWERTY keyboard, trackball, GPS software and Bluetooth capability.

The 8800 is a quad-band GSM/GPRS and supports EDGE - but oddly enough, leaves out HSDPA. That means that while the phone is slick, you won’t be doing any broadband surfing or downloading. It also has a built-in GPS chip, which means it can give you directions and support other location-based applications right out of the box.

The BlackBerry 8800 will be available this month, with pricing yet to be announced.

Digby: Mobile Commerce for the BlackBerry

Digby is a really cool app that lets you shop for all sorts of stuff from your BlackBerry without having to use the browser. It has a local catalog with flowers, chocolates, books, cds, dvd, etc,.. including search capabilities for stuff not already in the catalog. It links up with the address book and the calendar so you can buy and ship stuff to yourself or anyone in my address book without having to rekey info that is already on my BlackBerry. Digby is a free download and the products are at the same price as they are on the vendors normal website.

So there you have it, for all you BlackBerry owning shopoholics out there, Digby might be just the thing you needed to push your credit card bill over the edge.
