Jared Leto Doesn’t Want to Be Your Role Model

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music,

Jared Leto insists that he isn’t a role model to his fans - and doesn’t want to be.

The musician-and-actor thinks it’s absurd that artists are automatically expected to set standards for their young followers and he insists he doesn’t feel any pressure to behave in a certain way. Instead, he thinks it should be enough for his fans to be inspired by the success he and his brother Shannon Leto have achieved with their band 30 Seconds to Mars, despite their poor upbringing.

“I can do whatever the f**k I want. I have no responsibility to uphold an image. I don’t subscribe to the notion the artist is a role model by default. Look to the idea that you could be a poor white-trash kid and along with your brother put one foot in front of the other and make your dream come true. That’s the lesson. It’s not if I failed here and there with my life, or made mistakes. To have to keep secrets would be pointless.”

Although he spends a lot of time with his brother on the road, he insists they have a fantastic relationship, unlike other music-making siblings. “It’s not an Oasis situation, it’s great! Me and my brother were just two poor, white-trash kids from Louisiana and clawed our way up the muddy banks of the Mississippi with food stamps in one hand and our instruments in the other,” Jared, 38, explained to Elle.

Reuters: Apple finally readying subscription music service

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Music, Rumors,

We’ve been waiting for to launch some sort of subscription music service for years now. Seeing other companies like Rhapsody, Napster, and Microsoft’s offer it while leaving Apple out has been pretty frustrating. However, today Reuters is reporting (alongside CNET and the New York Post) that Apple is in talks with all the major record execs to pitch a new subscription music service. Basically, for $10-15 per month, you’d get unlimited access to pretty much the entire iTunes music library. It’s definitely a move to ward off Spotify, since they are trying hard to get into the US, as well as the impending launch of which will include a hyped up and renewed push of the Zune Pass. We’d love to see this one happen.

Tuesday night’s “Grilled Cheesus” episode of delivered up the usual laughs, gave us plenty of new Sue Sylvester quotations to bat around and filled millions of households with beautiful singing—but the show went a little deeper than its usual quips, jokes and jaw-dropping solos.

Glee Star Wants Justin Bieber

Justin BieberLea Michele wants Justin Bieber to appear on .

The brunette beauty is excited about forthcoming celebrity cameos in the musical drama series but would love producers to approach the teenage singing sensation about a role in the show.

“I don’t know about coming on the show, but he would be awesome. But I will tell you this-breaking news from Lea Michele! We have an Academy Award winner coming on Glee in the next few episodes that is not Justin Bieber.”

However, the 24-year-old actress is disappointed she won’t get the chance to get close to Javier Bardem when he makes a guest appearance: “I know the storyline and it’s not with me. Maybe I’ll be like, ‘Don’t I look like Penelope Cruz? Hey, It’s me - I’m Penelope.’”

Justin, 16, may welcome the chance to appear on the show alongside people of a similar age after recently confessing he finds life on the road can get lonely: “Lonely, yeah. I want to hang out with my friends, but I need security. I’m going to get my dog to come on the road in a couple of weeks.”

Apple updates Ping, still annoying and restrictive

Apple Ping error itunes

Over the weekend, released 10.0.1, which mainly adds a sidebar to the music library for interaction with their Ping social network. The change makes it easier to “like” and “post” music that’s in your iTunes library to Ping, without having to actually go into the Ping area of the store. It’s obvious that the change is a way for Apple to spur more usage in Ping, which we are guessing has seen interest and usage drop since it was released at their last .

The problem with Ping is that Apple refuses to allow you to use it with any music that they don’t sell. Big Beatles fan? No way to show that in Ping, because Apple won’t let you post or like any Beatles tracks, since they don’t sell them. It’s almost asinine. Imagine if Facebook didn’t allow you to talk about anyone who didn’t have a Facebook account. Today I tried to “like” a track in my library that I was listening to, and I was greeted with the error message that you see above.

Until Apple makes Ping more of a social network, and less of a music selling tool, consider us uninterested.
