We are back with another episode of GamerAndy Live! This week GamerAndy, GamerEdie, and Gear Live‘s Andru Edwards are behind the mic, bringing you a fresh dose of this week’s gaming news. Be sure to hit us up on the forums and let us know what you think.
SHOW NOTES FOR EPISODE 79:
- A recent ruling by the Copyright Royalty Board threatens Internet radio and independent musicians by increasing costs to webcasters by 1,200 percent retroactively…and even for non-RIAA music. Please send a letter to your representatives to help reevaluate this Draconian and dangerous decision!
- Sony throws party to celebrate God of War II. Great. The centerpiece of this event? A partially decapitated goat—and guests are invited to reach into the still-warm body, grab handfuls of offal and eat it. Good lord, what were they thinking?!? (Warning: Photo slightly NSFW in the United States for slight nippleage.)
- Edie discusses the relative difference of “titties,” “boobies,” “boobs,” and “tits.” Andy defines “gazongas.”
- The Xbox 360 Elite: Does Andru care? Does Edie?
- Hironobu Sakaguchi (Red Racer, Final Fantasy) + Ken Kutaragi = BFF? Apparently not.
- Speaking of Krazy Ken: He’s gone. Sony doesn’t want him, and neither does Nintendo, apparently. Sayonara, Sony! Konnichiwa, Mickey-Dees!
- Andy goes into more detail about his recent PS3 purchase… and it’s not pretty. Andru and Edie also discuss the possibilities for Playstation Home, both pros and cons.
- Edie still hearts her PS2, and Bully.
- Andy rails about Kotaku’s recent habit of using countless internal search links in their stories—frustrating as hell, he says.

Justin Timberlake Given HBO Special
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Specials, Cable, HBO, Saturday Night Live,
Love his music or hate it, Justin Timberlake is huge. And he’s not going anywhere any time soon. Given his popularity, HBO has signed on with the “SexyBack” singer to do a special for his first solo concert this summer. Timberlake’s Madison Square Garden appearance on August 16 will be taped for the special. HBO’s Nancy Geller said, “Justin Timberlake is a dynamic performer, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back to HBO.” He was previously on the cable network for an ‘NSync special. She continued, “We’re especially excited that he’ll be creating unique new elements for the special that will make the show an even more memorable experience for our viewers.” Timberlake has been making the rounds, winning two Grammys, hosting the Kids’ Choice Awards, hosting over at Saturday Night Live and even taking on films like Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan. He’ll next be heard in Shrek the Third.

Brace Yourself for High School Musical 2
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Cable/Satellite,
High School Musical took teeny boppers by storm when it debuted on The Disney Channel in January 2006. I oughta know—my niece is addicted to all things High School Musical. I finally got the chance to watch it with her over the Easter weekend and it wasn’t bad. Oh, to be sure, it wasn’t good either. But if I was a little girl, this movie would hit the spot. Well, fans… the second installment of the feel-good musical is on its way. The movie is actually filming right now, and will air August 17. If the sequel does half as well as the first (which was seen by 100 million people), you can bet there will be a third edition in the works (not to mention CD’s, ice shows, merchandising, etc). The whole gang returns for High School Musical 2: Sharpay, Ryan, Gabriella and dreamy (if I were 10) Troy.

Sanjaya’s Dark Secret
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors,
It was only a matter of time before some deep, dark secret from American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar came to light. Seems his family was into farming—and not veggies, either. Sanjaya’s mother, Jillian Blith, and stepfather, Charles Quist, were arrested and charged in 2005 for “unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance.” The police found 310 marijuana plants in the garage—ruh-roh. Sanjaya’s sister, Shyamali, was also arrested for possession. Seems the neighbors ratted them out after reporting the smell of marijuana and seeing Sanjaya’s mom “install a large vent on the roof of the garage.” Sanjaya, who would have been 15 at the time, was not involved in the bust. Whether or not this latest news will ruin Sanjaya’s chances of following his music, acting and modelling dreams is unclear. I’m willing to bet his 15 minutes of fame will be running out soon though.

Whitney Houston Preparing for Comeback?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Reality, Gossip,
The divorce is final, Bobby Brown is out of the picture, and the stage is set for the one thing that everyone’s been wondering: is Whitney Houston going to make a comeback? Half-hearted attempts in the past have failed, but now the songstress has a whole new reason to reach for the limelight again - she definitely will no longer be a part of Being Bobby Brown – or, for that matter, any other reality programming. So, Whitney’s warming up her vocals and getting ready to do what she used to do best: just sing. Houston is currently in the recording studio preparing to launch her comeback album, which early reports say are very good. Ne-Yo, R & B producer, is currently working with Houston to create some new tracks for her comeback album. Ne-Yo’s other clients include American Idol Dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson, who is also releasing a new album, and Michael Jackson.

Idol Gives Back Lacking Stars?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Ratings,
OK, I don’t want to bust on American Idol‘s “Idol Gives Back” show too much… this was an amazing way to raise money through the highest rated show on TV. But, I felt a little cheated by the failure to deliver the big names they’ve been touting since they announced Idol Gives Back. And the celebs who did appear got very little air time—like Hugh Grant and Keira Knightley, who had been announced on the roster of stars for weeks and only (from what I saw) had a small part in that celeb lip syncing of Stayin’ Alive. Truly, there was a lot of performances and footage of African and American kids living in poverty—that’s the heart of the charity, after all. But still, I’m not so sure the massive promotion of stars who didn’t appear was necessary (Borat and Gwen Stefani come to mind). And, I don’t want to brag (well, a little maybe), but I had a feeling as soon as Ryan said this would be “the most shocking result in Idol history” that no one would be going home. It just didn’t seem right to eliminate someone with the whole tone of the show. Next week though—two get the boot!
Vanessa Minnillo Bails from TRL
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Gossip, Rumors,
After four years on MTV’s Total Request Live, Vanessa Minnillo is calling it quits. Is it TRL‘s change in format to a semi-live program, or her recent shacking up with Nick Lachey to blame? Well, maybe some of both… or maybe neither. Minnillo said of her departure, “I had my four years there like high school or college. I’m ready for the next chapter – what it is, I have no idea. [But] I don’t want to be 48 saying, ‘Hey kids, now it’s Sean Preston Spears’s video.’ ” Good girl, getting out before she’s old and gray. She does have a career in the wings—a makeup line for Flirt! Cosmetics, which will be available in August. “We have two looks going on,” Minnillo said. “You can have that fun rock-and-roll look or an everyday look.” OK, sure. She’ll also show up in the next Fantastic Four. I’m sure she’ll have no trouble finding work. There’s always a new reality show looking for a host.

Malakar Making His Way to White House
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, Talk Shows, FOX, American Idol, News,
Sanjaya Malakar, recently eliminated American Idol contestant, is off to a post-Idol adventure that might be even harder than dealing with Simon once a week: he’s going to the White House. Just don’t get President Bush started on foreign policy – who knows what sort of drama that might cause? Malakar will attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend as the guest of People magazine. Huge stars like John Cusack, Jane Fonda, and Sheryl Crow will also be in attendance. What are the odds that anyone will ask to hear him sing with Sheryl in the room? President Bush, Henry Kissinger, A-list movie stars…and Sanjaya Malakar. Yah, that makes perfect sense. But, Sanjaya won’t stay in the capital city for long – he’s got media to do. The Idol star of the week will appear on the Late Show, Live With Regis and Kelly, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show next week. As for his future musical plans, Sanjaya said in an interview he’d like to attend the prestigious Berklee School of Music. The chairwoman of Berklee’s Vocal Department, Jan Shapiro, said to the Boston Herald that Sanjaya is “real cute, but not much of a singer.” Time for Plan B. Who knows? Maybe Bush will have another opening in his Cabinet soon…and from what I hear, Dick Chaney is still looking for a new hunting buddy.

So Long, Sanjaya
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, News,
It was fun while it lasted. Sanjaya Malakar, young American Idol contestant, was great for a laugh and gave us all “Something to Talk About” even before his Tuesday night performance fell flat with judges. But, for many weeks now, the consensus opinion has been that the young singer overstayed his Idol welcome. Despite the combined efforts of the Vote for the Worst web site and radio shock jock Howard Stern’s pro-Sanjaya-for-Idol campaign, the most popular contestant to ever grace the Idol stage finally fell from grace during last night’s Wednesday results show. The news was met with smiles from Simon Cowell, who went far enough to say in an interview that he would quit his judging job if Malakar won the title of American Idol. An obviously fed up Cowell soundly and roundly bashed Malakar’s rendition of the Bonnie Raitt hit earlier this week, saying it was “horrendous” and as bad a performance as the ones they see at the very beginning of each new season of Idol. In his usual concise fashion, Simon Cowell addressed America and more or less told them to cut it out. “It was funny for a while, but enough is enough,” was the gist of Cowell’s comments. After this word on high from everyone’s favorite judge, Malakar’s votes considerably dropped…and Sanjaya was dropped out of the competition as a result. During his tearful good-bye, Sanjaya changed the lyrics of his song, beseeching fans and critics alike to talk of something other than hair. Okay…how about bad singing?

Simon Cowell’s Controversial Eye Rolling
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Internet, Rumors,
I guess I must have missed it during American Idol last night, but Simon Cowell rolled his eyes during the critique of Chris Richardson. Nothing unusual there, however, it happened right after Chris sent out a prayer to Virginia Tech. This morning, the Internet was buzzing with Cowell’s inappropriate behavior. In his defense, Simon said he was responding to the comment that Richardson said about singing nasal-y. He was discussing it with Paula and rolling his eyes, but the camera caught Simon in mid-eye roll when Richardson mentioned Virginia Tech. It begs the question: is Simon Cowell really that cold-hearted of a person? On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, Seacrest said, “We’ve got to clear this up. There are these people on the Internet trying to make something of this story, and let’s just be honest, no human being would be that disrespectful to anybody involved in that awful tragedy.” Cowell responded, “No, of course not… The truth was that I had switched off at that point. I was ... saying to Paula, ‘What does he mean he was singing nasal-y on purpose?’ I didn’t understand what he was saying.” I’m willing to give Simon the benefit here—while he plays a meanie on TV, I don’t think he is that hard hearted.
