Are Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens Over?

Zac Efron It almost sounds scripted, doesn’t it? Two relatively unknown actors get cast in the leading roles for a Disney TV movie. Wonder of wonders, the movie becomes one of Disney’s biggest hits, spawning a best-selling album, huge ratings, and sequels. For the High School Musical fans out there, it was just the icing on the cake that Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens took their on-screen love to a real-life relationship. But now, OK! Magazine says it’s all over - Efron ended the relationship at least a week ago. Friends of the stars, however, say they don’t think it’s all really finished for the budding young couple.

The Continuing Saga of Britney Spears

As if the well-publicized divorce and custody battle between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline wasn’t already enough of a carnival show, Monday saw new surprises in the former famous couple’s lives. Tony Barretto, a former Spears bodyguard, was revealed as the “secret witness” that’s been hinted at by attorney Gloria Allred.

The bodyguard was there to allegedly testify to “drug use, nudity and safety issues” on the part of Britney Spears, actions the bodyguard said took place in front of her two children. Barretto, who is a father himself, lived at the Spears home full-time from March to May, and was terminated because – according to Allred – he did not hear Spears when she asked him to pick up her hat. Britney’s lawyer is going to step away from her case after apparently butting heads with Spears over legal strategy. Spears has also been ditched by her manager after only one month, saying that “current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job.” Bad press doesn’t help, either. Britney’s album, meanwhile, is still set for its November release date. In other Britney news, a tabloid has reported that Spears was booted out of the Chateau Marmont hotel allegedly for shoveling gourmet food into her face. The report says other guests demanded the once-pop star be asked to leave. This report is unconfirmed by other media sources.

Expanded Guitar Hero III Track List Found

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock PS3 Cover A rumor began circulating yesterday that the full and final track list for Activision‘s Guitar Hero III was available. The problem with the list was that while it seemed credible it lacked several bands who had previously announced their involvement with the game, notably Atreyu and Velvet Revolver.

We followed up with one of the original sources yesterday and he confirmed that the list was accurate but perhaps not 100% complete, which would leave room for additional songs to be announced closer to the release date or perhaps even kept under wraps until the game ships. In any case, the selection is shaping up nicely with a few unexpected inclusions.

Guitar Hero III Announced for Mac and PC

Guitar Hero III on Mac and PC It took several years but the marketability of the popular console series Guitar Hero couldn’t go unnoticed by the PC side of gaming for very long and today Aspyr Media announced that it will be bringing Activision‘s Guitar Hero III to PC and Mac in time for the holiday season.

Dusty Welch, head of publishing at Red Octane, said in a statement to GameDaily BIZ: “Providing the option for our fans to play Guitar Hero at their desk or on a laptop on the go is incredibly exciting, and we’re thrilled to now offer the ability to rock out literally anywhere and everywhere.”

The PC version will ship with a USB guitar controller based on an as-yet unannounced Gibson model. Aspyr is planning on offering some type of download service but declined to reveal any specific details of how that would be handled saying, “We hope to have a very exciting announcement soon.” At this stage Aspyr is still conducting compatibility tests and hasn’t solidified the system requirements but stressed that they were aiming to make the game accessible to the widest audience possible.

Harmonix Co-Founder Answers Questions About Rock Band

Rock Band Guitar Controller The Official Xbox Magazine’s podcast has an interview this week with Harmonix co-founder and president Alex Rigopulos about their upcoming game Rock Band. In the interview he talks about the game bundles, although light on concrete details he does confirm a band-in-a-box bundle that will include a guitar, drum kit and microphone. However, he goes on to say that the PlayStation 3 version will include a wireless guitar controller while the Xbox 360 version will have to include a wired guitar because Microsoft‘s wireless technology is too expensive to make the bundle reasonably priced. Since the 360 also has only two USB ports, the 360 Rock Band bundle will also be packed with a USB hub.

Rigopulos goes on to discuss the game’s career modes a little, saying there will be both solo career mode that progresses in a linear fashion similar to what Guitar Hero players are used to, but they are also including a less linear band career mode. In this mode you traverse to various venues trying to build up your fan base and in some cases return to previously played locations to maintain your fame there. Also it’s worth noting that the solo career mode will not include a bass career track so your options are vocals, guitar and drums in solo career mode. But Rigopulos did reveal that the finale songs for each career path (and therefore likely the difficulty distinctions throughout) will be different for each instrument, and he even said that at this point the drum finale will be The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

VMAs Speared by Britney

For those that missed the black bikini-clad Britney Spears at the VMAs last night, there are videos all over the Web and clips all over the TV. Immediately after the broadcast, the E! network started running a ticker bashing Brit’s performance. MTV’s broadcast might have been a comeback chance for Britney Spears, but her performance is getting headlines for different reasons. As stars like Sean “Diddy” Combs looked on in confusion, Spears lip-synched her way through a performance that wasn’t on beat, contained less-than-thrilling dance moves, and fell completely flat with fans. Between Brit’s bomb and the fist fight between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee, the artists who won awards were treated more like afterthoughts amid the electric-blue tables that crowded the main room, and the chaotic suites that hosted live performances. Despite encouraging words from fans and other artists, Spears still seems more like a slow-motion train wreck than pop superstar.

Justin Timberlake brought SexyBack, but can Brit bring herself back from the tabloid nightmare she has fallen into? Britney Spears has released a new single called Gimme More - a catchy tune that’s burning up radio waves. The song opens with Britney’s voice, rife with attitude: “It’s Britney, bitch” – but don’t worry, it does get a little better from there. Spears will also be performing at the MTV VMAs this year, a stage she once made famous when she exchanged a sultry, mid-song kiss with pop Queen Madonna (whose crown will never truly be taken, all kisses and pop princesses aside).

New Tour Dates for Kelly Clarkson

Description Kelly Clarkson, often touted as the most successful American Idol, is going back on tour this fall. Clarkson canceled her summer tour earlier this year, an action following in the wake of a disagreement with her record label. Many of the venues Clarkson booked did not sell out for the summer dates. This time around, Clarkson will kick off her tour at New York’s Beacon Theater on October 14, finishing off her run in Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in early December. And all the dates in-between? In a statement, Kelly Clarkson said she’s looking forward to the tour. With luck, there will be no more cancellations for the reality star-turned pop/rock princess.

Is Disney’s Musical Efron Headed for Fame?

Disney has discovered their fair share of teen culture phenomena. To be honest, Disney has created their fare share of teen culture. From child stars-turned-superstars like Lindsay Lohan to Shia LaBeouf, Disney can make and break careers. For the young, Disney becomes a fabulous opportunity – or a dead-end. For others, like Tim Allen, their careers just might end in Disney movie mania. So, what’s the next step for Zac Efron, the teen star of Disney’s huge High School Musical franchise? The 19-year-old star rocketed to nationwide fame through the efforts of one made-for-TV-movie that was made to become the next big thing for every female teenager in the country. The fad can no longer be denied now that Disney’s second effort, High School Musical 2, earned a cool $33 million in its opening weekend alone. And though the original Musical has aired twenty-four times on the Disney channel, it’s still getting at least 5 million viewers each and every time. Those are ratings that simply can’t be denied.

Hannah Montana: The First Day One Game You’ll Buy “For Your Little Sister”

Okay, the game is Hannah Montana. But subtitled “Music Jam,” this game looks like a portable Rock Band including recording capabilities, four different instruments, wireless multiplayer and some really cool gameplay. There’s really no reason to be ashamed if you end up excited about this game. Except, you know, the teeny bopper license and the fact that any guy over 13 who buys this will get a lot of really suspicious looks from game store clerks.

Still, the guy demoing the game in the video is not a wuss and would totally beat you up, so if he’s comfortable playing it, you should be too.

Or, you could hold out and hope that Disney Interactive wisely re-brands this down the road with something a little less emasculating or at the very least a little less “middle school.”
