‘American Idol’ Says No to Britney Spears

American IdolThe upcoming season of American Idol promises a few changes and some never-before-seen additions to the show, but pop princess Britney Spears will not be one of them.

The show’s executive producer announced earlier this week that he does not believe Spears is in good enough condition to be a mentor to the aspiring hopefuls on Idol. “I think she needs to get herself together,” said executive producer Lythgoe. He did say, however, that he would have welcomed Spears on the FOX show last season, when it seemed she might be getting herself (and her career, and her personal life) back together again.

If the hopefuls could command media attention the way Spears does, they wouldn’t need reality TV.

American Idol: Season Seven Starting Without Sparks

American IdolThe scandal. The bad singing. The fierce competition. Last year’s had all the ingredients for high-ratings reality success, but will FOX be so lucky in Season Seven?

Sweet-faced, young Jordin Sparks was declared last year’s winner, but her new album has gained dismal sales. In fact, Sparks has released the lowest-selling Idol debut album in the

entire history

of the show. Have fans lost interest?

During a recent appearance on , Idol judge also had few positive comments about the upcoming season. In recent weeks, Jackson has been present at the much-hyped Idol auditions and has witnessed firsthand what sort of talent America might see next month. Apparently, Randy wasn’t “blown out the box” with this year’s crop of young talent.

You can judge the competition for yourself when returns January 15th.

‘American Idol’ Runner-Up Debuts Album

Blake Lewis, pictured here with Jordin SparksThe hair. The smile. The voice. I admit I was not displeased with the results of last season’s , though I’ll further admit I wouldn’t have minded if had won over , either. The Idol winner just recently released her first album, but don’t let that cast a shadow over Blake’s news: he’s got one, too.

Break Anotha is already on its way up the charts, the result of careful planning and consideration from Lewis. After all, he’s been ready to release an album for years. The young runner-up arrived at the studio filled with ideas and musical samplers, resulting in an album that’s covered with his own personal stamp. Even the title, Audio Day Dream, is a long-standing idea from out of Blake’s own head. The album contains spirited licks, tuneful hits, and even a ballad (How Many Words) that Lewis says is his personal fave.

Reality Show Predictions Revisited

Phil KeoghanSo evidently I’m really bad at predicting the outcomes of reality shows (which, I know, already happened).  I mean, really exceptionally bad.  Now, I could have just buried my predictions from two weeks ago, but a man has to face his failures, so here we go.  (Oh, and blahblahblahSPOILERALERTblahblahblah.)

THE AMAZING RACE:
Just a few weeks in, and one of my finalists is already gone.  Not only was I wrong about Lorena & Jason being one of the three final teams, I was also wrong about them not annoying me yet.  Lorena’s camel-milking meltdown (and how often did you read that phrase?) was incredibly entertaining and also horribly, cripplingly annoying.  Still, Azaria & Hendekea are running strong and maybe I’ll be right about who ultimately gets to hang out with Phil at the finish line.  But most likely not.

AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL:
My pick, Heather, was in the Bottom Two last week.  She’s still in it, but her not-great public speaking skills mean she may not be long for this competition.

Don’t Rush to Theaters for ‘August Rush’

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Warner Bros, Drama, Family, Music, New Releases,

August Rush ScreenshotFrom the first time I saw the trailer, I had a bad feeling about the dramatic, music-themed , which doesn’t seem to have a strong cast or even a believable storyline. Early reviews are in, and so far the criticism isn’t good.

plays a young boy with innate musical talent, who embarks upon a quest to find his parents. That, in a nutshell, is the plot. There is one scene were the young boy stands in a field and hears music on the breeze, which inspires him to head to the big city of New York to find his mom and dad (because that’s a highly likely thing for a boy under fifteen to do). His parents are played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers (you know, Henry VIII), and (I know, who?), both musicians themselves, who meet and conceive a baby. The mother’s father has the resulting baby (Highmore) given up for adoption, telling his daughter the baby died. But don’t let this soap operatic plot be the thing that deters you – be deterred by over-the-top acting instead.

American Idol’s Jordin Sparks Releases Debut Album

Jordin SparksJordin Sparks, the youngest winner to claim the crown, has just released her first album.  The production is a result of her last-season victory…but is Jordin now last season, as well?

The seventeen-year-old included lightweight, loving little ditties on her album which enhance her wholesome image (part of the reasons fans fell in love with her), but there are some different sounds included as well. “Young and in Love” is a bit of a deviation for Sparks, though most of the other songs remain just as tame as fans want them to be. All in all, no big surprises for Sparks’ debut album, which may or may not be a good thing.

Without a few raunchy, rollicking tracks, does Sparks have a shot at Kelly Clarkson-esque success? There’s got to be a pill somewhere in all that jam, and the new Sparks album just doesn’t seem to have it.
