CES 2008: MOTOROKR Wins Best Headphones

Winner of the Best Innovation in Headphones went to the MOTOROKR S9. Okay, they look a little weird, but the Bluetooth 2.0 phones weigh only about an ounce with 13mm speakers. The S9 is compatible with most phones and iPods with optional adapter and one button switchability. If you get a call when you are digging your tunes, the music will pause. A charge will last you up to 6 hrs. of play time and the phones are sweat and water resistant for the necessary times when you have to make a mad dash for the bus. The MOTOROKR have been marked down to $129.99 with a free car charger if you order at the Motorola Store.

Motorola to Release Ferrari Phone

Ferrari MOTO ZE Motorola has teamed with Ferrari to go “vroom.” Even if you cannot afford the car, the company is offering a MOTO ZE Ferrari Limited Edition cell phone. In snazzy colors of red and black, the handset includes 2 video clips, wallpaper and ringtones, a pre-loaded (and outdated) “Bourne Identity,” and a pre-registration to the Ferrari website. In addition, it still has other ZE features such as an UIQ interface, a 2 megapixel cam, and a microSD card slot. Look for it in the next couple of months with a definite price.

Some Sidekicks Don’t Slide

Motorola and T-Mobile have announced that there are some serious issues with some of their Sidekick Slides. Apparently when the feature is activated, the device may reboot or turn off. No need to worry if you own an LX or iD model, but anyone trying to purchase one of the faulty ones will find a “temporarily available” on T-Mobile’s site. Contact T-Mobile online or hit your nearest retail store if you are having any problems with your Sidekick.

Speak With Motorola TLKR

TLKR T5 Motorola has unveiled new two-way radios, in spite of the fact that they left out the vowels while naming them. Both incorporate the hanging loop feature that makes them easy to carry. The TLKR T3, designed for the younger crowd in orange red, or blue, features 8 channels with a 5 km range, a channel scan and monitor, an LCD display, and will last up to 20 hours on a battery charge.

The deluxe T5 has those same features, in addition to 121 channel code privacy, a twin charger pod with separate charging jack, voice activation and auto-power off. The T5 walkie talkies come in black, red, or blue. Motorola promises to keep them “at an affordable price point,” which sounds a bit vague for now, so contact them for price and availability.

Motorola Unveils New MOTO Q9m

Motorola’s new MOTO Q9m features an ergonomic QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth capability, and a side-scroll thumbwheel with dedicated keys. The smartphone runs Verizon’s V Cast 3G toggle EV_DO for over-the-air music downloads and Windows Mobile 6 for voice-activated dialing. It also has a 1.3 mp cam with flash Dual and a slot for up to a 4GM micro SD cards for pictures, music, and video storage. The MOTO runs up to ~212 hours standby time and talk time up to ~273 minutes. Find one at Verizon for $249.99 after an $100.00 online discount with a 2 year contract, with an additional $50.00 mail-in rebate.

Motorola To Release Two New Clamshells

Motorola has unveiled two new cell phones in Taiwan. Their L72 SLVR features the same 11.5 mm thinness as its L7 forefather, and now also has a 2 mp cam with zoom and auto-focus, HSDPA, an FM tuner, a micro SD card slot, and CrystalTalk for improved tonal quality. The Maxx V1110 (shown here) updates the Vodaphone V1100 and works on mostly the same technology as the L7 but has a 1.3 megapixel camera. Contact Motorola for future availability and price.

Motorola Launches Waterproof Walkie Talkie

Motorola has recently unveiled its analog GP628 Plus walkie talkie in Korea with an IP67 (International Protection) rating, so that next time you are hanging around a war, you will not have to fear being told to stop using it. Both waterproof and dustproof, it also features a push-to-talk feature, an LED in case its battery is dying, and an emergency siren. Contact Motorola for price details. We’re wondering just how important this rating is considering some of our soldiers in the Middle East are wearing homemade body armor and using Silly String for bomb detection.

Motorola Unveils V-shaped RIZR Z8

With disappointing 4th quarter profits and it’s RAZR phone starting to look “old-school”, Motorola has upped the ante with a unique design concept for its new MOTORIZR Z8 phone. Introduced at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, one of the largest wireless technology trade shows, the RIZR slides up to reveal a keyboard, but also has a hinge that locks the phone into a V-shape, bringing the microphone closer to the user. As if that weren’t cool enough, the RIZR utilizes Symbian software, boasts TV-like video playback, and has a slot for a 4GB memory card. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but we’re betting the RIZR lives up to its name and raises Motorola’s profits when released in April.

CES 2007: Motorola Announces Q’s Sequel: Q PRO

Description Motorola today confirmed the Q PRO, their enterprise offering of the Motorola Q. (Though we really wish they would’ve just called it the Q2.) Essentially the same phone, it comes with the ability to disable the camera, (a disturbing feature for all those corporate espionage types) a basic Office suite of apps, (think Word editors, and PDF, Excel and Powerpoint viewers) and enhanced security options that include intrusion detection and real-time event logging. No price, but it’s supposed to be available now, likely only to enterprise customers at the moment. We’d expect a small mark up from the basic Q model, but hopefully nothing too substantial.
