Box Office Breakdown: The Incredible Hulk Pulls in the Green

It looks like ticket buyers are willing to give some things a second chance after all…
Despite horrible reviews for 2003’s Hulk, wary theatergoers turned out in big numbers for the latest big-screen version of The Incredible Hulk. The newest rendition, starring Edward Norton and Liv Tyler, came in first place after earning $55 million during the past three days. While that total falls behind Ang Lee’s version (that movie debuted with $62 million), it did better than expected. The 2008 update had the best showing for any film over Father’s Day weekend (passing Silver Surfer‘s $58 million) and should also have a longer shelf life thanks to favorable word of mouth.

Jon Favreau Blogs, Rants About Iron Man 2
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Paramount, Sony, Universal, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Sequels, Thrillers, Filmmaking, Rumors, Scripts, Upcoming Releases,
What’s an actor-turned-big-time-director to do once he’s catapulted into major success, forced to take on a sequel without having been consulted about anything concerning the project? Rant about your bosses and their absurdity in your MySpace blog! At least, that’s the route Iron Man director Jon Favreau took.
Actively participating in a MySpace forum to appease film geeks’ questions, Favreau complains, “Neither Robert [Downey Jr.] nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is. We owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.”

Iron Man 2 Already Announced
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Box Office, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
Although a leading man has not yet officially been attached, Marvel has gone ahead and cleared a spot for another Iron Man film.
The studio, which already had options for two more sequels, immediately greenlighted the second installment after their record-busting weekend. Given that Robert Downey Jr. has been widely credited for making the well-received film a success, it’s expected he’ll be bargaining with execs for a larger paycheck. Meanwhile, Marvel is reportedly set to talk with the actor and director Jon Favreau about the follow-up’s general storyline soon.
Assuming negotiations go well, we should be expecting to see Iron Man 2 - with Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard - on April 30, 2010.

The Latest Incredible Hulk Trailer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Science Fiction, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
While I think this trailer for The Incredible Hulk is definitely an improvement over the earlier version, I still don’t think there’s anything they could do to make that green guy look less cheesy.
And am I the only one who thinks they they should have kept that other ugly thing under wraps?
Edward Norton‘s version of The Incredible Hulk storms into theaters on June 13.

This Incredible Hulk. This is the movie that’s supposed to make us forget about Ang Lee’s 2003 mistake called Hulk.
Unfortunately, I just found myself giggling after I saw the big, cheesy reveal.
Question is: Could they have possibly made the green guy look better? After seeing movies like Cloverfield, have we come to expect too much from our ‘monsters’?
The Incredible Hulk comes to life this summer on June 13.
More Deals Struck With Writers Guild
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Lionsgate, Weinstein Company,
Although a deal with a major studio has yet to be reached, the Writers Guild has been striking gold in other areas. Late this week, the union was able to boast signed agreements with three other companies: RKO, Marvel Entertainment and Lionsgate. These interim pacts are similar to the ones already reached with The Weinstein Company and United Artists.
In the meantime, informal talks between the WGA and studio reps began last Tuesday and continued through the week.

‘Wolverine’ To Hit Theaters In 2009

Fanboys everywhere are squealing with glee as Twentieth Century Fox announces that they have set a date for the eagerly awaited and horribly titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film will hit theaters on May 1, 2009 and, of course, star Hugh Jackman as Marvel’s short-tempered, adamantium-clawed mutant. In addition to release date excitement, Variety reports that Liev Schreiber is in talks to play a younger version of William Stryker, Wolverine’s nemesis who was played by Brian Cox in X2.
What excites me? Rumors that the film (to be directed by Tsotsi’s Gavin Hood), which will be partially filmed in New Orleans, will include the previously left out X-man, Gambit. If I had a dollar for every playing card I lost/ruined by imitating the cartoon version of the Cajun mutant, I’d be freakin’ rich.
A few other new mutants (as well as returning ones) are expected to make appearances. Fox is also trying to get the origin story of X-Men villain Magneto off the ground and into theaters.

Marvel’s ‘Thor’ Script Gets Thumbs Up
Posted by David Onda Categories: Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, Filmmaking, Scripts, Upcoming Releases, Short FilmCrunch,
Comic book fans rejoice! The long-dreamt-of big-screen debut of Marvel’s Thor has just gotten one step closer to becoming a reality. As reported by The Guardian, director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake) and screenwriter Mark Protosevich have just finished the script for the mighty hammer-wielder’s movie this past week. In ever better news, Vaughn says Marvel has already approved it. They did, however, have one tiny issue:
“My phone has just rung. Marvel loves the script. The only problem is that it has been costed at $300m and they ask how I am going to reduce it by $150m. I think I prefer being asked what it’s like working with De Niro.”
One hurdle cleared – another $150 million hurdle to go.

EA Shutting Down Servers For Madden 06, NBA Live 06, And More
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Action, Driving, Electronic Arts, PC, PlayStation 2, PSP, Sports, Xbox, Xbox 360,
People always ask, “Why buy the newest Madden game? They’re all the same.” Well, here’s one very cut-and-dry reason you can use to explain: because, eventually, these game’s servers get taken down. EA is planning to take down 42 games’ servers on September 1 (although many of these are the same game across multiple platforms), and an additional seven on November 1. This isn’t a new trend, as there’s a sizable list of servers for EA games that have gone offline over time.
Apparently there really is a reason to pick up that newest Madden.
