Vero Allows Solar Recharging

The Vero ENB-100 allows for hands-free, Bluetooth communication within 30 feet of your cell phone. The solar powered car kit has voice recognition and will call by one word, even if your phone has dropped under the passenger seat. Three LEDs let you know the status of a call, and battery and solar recharging. It also features noise reduction, echo cancellation, an omni-directional mic, simplistic buttons, and promises up to 15 hours of talk time or 600 hours of standby, depending on the weather that day. At a size of 91.3 × 50.5 × 13.3 mm and a weight of 60 g, it comes with with a car charger, cradle, and mounting accessories. We think this would be a great addition to any dashboard, unless you happen to be in one of those dark-glassed, paparazzi-proof limos. It comes with a price tag of £51.06 (~$105.00.)

Ann Arbor Installs LEDs

Ann Arbor, Michigan, always a town with the latest in tech, has decided to replace about 1,400 downtown street lights with LEDs. They claim to be the first for the conversion which they feel will save the town $100,000 a year, according to Mayor John Hieftje. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, widespread use could cut energy consumption in half. Considering that it only cost $630,000, we hope that other towns will follow suit for the same results.

Play Chess at Night

LED Chess For those of you that play chess into the wee hours of the morning, Dutch designer Daan Van Tuldur has created a set that is lit by LEDs that are located in the 4 corners of the board. Black and white are replaced by matte and transparent squares, and all the pieces basically have the same shape. Besides this prototype, Van Tuldur has worked on many designs, including HotSpots, arcade-size retro systems geared for the next generation of Atari gamers.

Philips Releases 16 Million Colors

Philips Moodlight Philips has designed a moodlight that can create 16 million colors. The Living Color LED can be used on ceilings or floors and comes with a remote so that you can alter its hue whenever the mood strikes you. At a size of 28.8 x 22.5 x 24.4 cm and a weight of 553 g, the company claims it has an “extremely long” life with low energy usage. We wonder if that really means long enough to find all of those colors. It’s available for €149.00 (~$211.00,) but only in Germany at this point. Feel free to pick one up for us if you plan on visiting the country this Oktoberfest.

M8cool Releases Disco Phone

This cell phone by M8cool was created for those who love to disco, want to stand out in a crowd, or have stock in Duracell. The entire front panel is covered with flashing lights as is the keypad and the camera in the back. We wonder if that affects the outcome of the image. For that matter, will it bop in time to its ringtones? Nonetheless, it makes you want to sing one more chorus of “Stayin’ Alive,” doesn’t it?

Speecys Breaks Up Your Day

They say laughter is the best medicine. That must have been the thinking behind the creators of Speecys SPC-101C. At a height of 33 cm and a weight of 1.5 kg, the guffawing bot features a 22+LED display, 2 stereo speakers, a 270,000-pixel CMOS Color Video cam, and wireless capability. We think that perhaps he is laughing and dancing because someone was dense enough to shell out the $3,000. And yes, for the record, we realize the Speecys is a cleverly disguised homophone.

Count the hours by the vertical lines and minutes by the horizontal ones. The watch comes in a brushed, mirrored Gunmetal finish with your choice of blue, white or multi-color LEDs.
