FATS Shoes for Fat Kids

What better way to remind your child that she/he is on their way to obesity than to present them with a pair of FATS (Fitness Achievement Technology System) shoes. Created by students from the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands, the more the kids work out, the more the color appears. This is accomplished by a motion sensor integrated into the shoe’s heel that, along with glass fiber yarn woven on the outside, reflects the light from LEDs. While we think that most kidlets we know would prefer being rewarded with a twinkie or more video game time for exercising, we suspect that this prototype may work on the same little ones that wear those blinking light shoes for safety reasons.

The Korean Company Senslux has released the Light Therapy Desk Lamp SLD series. You can create 7 steps of brightness and 3 moods by adjusting red and blue colors or a combination of the two. The company claims that in addition to natural lighting, the lamps help cure acne, rejuvenate your skin, and cut back on SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder.) The energy-saving LED will at least ease your eye strain at a price of 148,000 KRW (~$152.00.)

Robot Gymnast is Super-Coordinated

This automated gymnastic bot is more talented than most humans we know. Earlier studies showed that walking robots needed pressure sensors on the soles of their feet. Take this a step farther and this one features a layer of urethane foam which have been embedded with LEDs and photodiodes. When the light disperses in the foam it is detected by those diodes. All we know is that the robot is incredibly impressive as it goes through its acrobatic routine.

Tibida, For Binary Clock Watchers

Tibida Watch Tokyoflash has alerted us to the most recent of its watches with the Tibida. It has 42 white LEDs and tells time by hour, minute, or binary. The lower display shows the hours, while the upper displays the minutes, and you count each individual LED as a progression of 5 minutes.
