Based on a 1930 vintage design, the Nomad Portable Speaker is lightweight and very mod looking with its wood cabinet, leatherette handle, and tweed vinyl accents. The 11.25 x 7.5 x 5.25-inch device has a dedicated aux input for your MP3 player/iPod, a telescopic antenna, and on/off/volume and tuning knobs. With its electronic tuner, you can choose AM/FM/Aux input with a simple switch. An iPod/MP3 cord and AC adapter are included, but not the 4AA batteries it requires. Similar to their original product, each dock has flip-down speaker wings, a digital amp and built-in 3-inch sub woofer. They also have LED volume indicators, full function remote, auto shut-off, and are compatible with any iPod with dock connection or iPhone. The USB connection makes for plug-and-play with your computer and an auxiliary-in jack can connect to other MP3 players. Each comes with a price of $124.95 with a portion of sales going to the MagicWater Project that supports children with pediatric cancer.

iLuv iSP100 Mini Stereo Speaker

iLuv has unveiled the iSP100 Mini Portable Stereo Speaker. It is compatible with iPods, iPhones, and MP3 players. Powered by 3 AAA batteries, the speaker has what the company calls “720° Surround Sound.” It comes with a retractable cable with 3.5mm jack for headphone or audio output and traveling case. Look for the speaker’s debut in the next few weeks with a price tag of $34.99.

You that 2G iPod touch that Apple was all excited about, being that it’s the thinnest iPod touch ever (despite being only the second one ever made)? Yeah, this thing is thin, and if you don’t already have a first-gen iPod touch, you should seriously look into this model if you’ve been waiting one. It’s a nice improvement over the original. Sony has a new iPhone/iPod Boombox. The ZS-S4iP has a tray to insert the music maker while charging and includes a remote. When you want to retrieve it, you simply push “eject.” It also has 2 2.0 W speakers, an AM/FM tuner with up to 30 presets, ID3 tag support, and a headphone port. Available in both black and white, the price estimate on the device is ~$140.00 with an expected October arrival.

PURE has unveiled its i-10 for iPods and iPhones. Available with 9 different adapters, it can be used with all of the company’s speaker systems with its auxiliary input or others with 3.5mm stereo input. Needless to say, it doubles as a dock. The i-10 comes with remote for easy control and navigation and comes with a black and silver finish. Available at PURE’s online store in October, pre-order for a £29.99 (~$53.00) price tag.

iPod nano updated, elongated, and nano-chromatic

The worst-kept secret of today’s Apple Let’s Rock iPod event was the newly updated iPod nano. Apple officially let the cat out of the bag today, sharing all the details. The new iPod nano is taller, and also turns out to be the thinnest iPod ever made. It’s available in a record nine colors, and you get two models to choose from - an 8GB version for $149, and a 16GB version for $199. The battery will hook you up with 24 hours of music or 4 hours of video. The nano now has an included accelerometer, which allows it to sense if you are holding it in portrait or landscape mode, so it can then change the screen orientation accordingly. That same accelerometer also gives rise to a new “Shake to Shuffle” feature. It’s exactly what it sounds like. If you don’t like what you are listening to, shake the nano, and you get a new random track. You can order the new iPod nano now at the online Apple Store, or pick one up at a physical location as they arrive over the next few days.

iTunes 8 now available, HD TV shows, NBC is back, Genius recommendations

iTunes 8 was announced this morning as part of the whole Let’s Rock Apple announcement festivities, and there were a few nice pieces of news. First, NBC is back on iTunes with shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and Ballestar Galactics. What’s more, though, is that iTunes will now be selling TV shows in high definition. Aside from the feeling that I know my wallet is about to be drained, this is a very welcome addition. My only hope is that they allow those of us who have purchased shows in SD to “upgrade” to the HD versions at a discount. It’s only fair, right?
In other news, Apple has added “Genius” to iTunes - that being a recommendation engine that looks at the track you are listening to, and recommends other tracks in the iTunes store that it believes you would like. In addition, Genius can also create truly customized playlists on the fly, again, just by sampling what you are listening to. It will pull other songs from your iTunes library that it believes would complement your selection, without any work to be done on your part. We must admit, it looks slick. Speaking of which, they’ve also included a new visualizer, which is just off the hook. You’ve gotta see it to believe it.
