Video: iPad (3rd generation) Dictation review

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Features, Product Reviews, Videos,

We gave you a look at the new iPad Retina display in our last video, and now we're here to show off the DIctation feature. Dictation allows you to speak your words to the iPad while it listens and attempts to turn your words into text typed into the app your using. As you can see in the video, Dictation is easy to use (it's right on the keyboard, next to the space bar,) but it doesn't always get everything perfect. You also need to remember to speak your punctuation when using the feature. It's definitely convenient, and easy to go in and clean up any mistakes after the fact. Get a look at how it all works in the video above.

Video: A look at the iPad (3rd generation) Retina display

The new iPad (3rd generation) was released two weeks ago, and in that time, Apple has already sold millions. The biggest and best feature of the device is the high resolution Retina display. When you compare it against the original iPad and iPad 2 displays, it's apparent that it's a big step up from what we've had before. In fact, it's the highest resolution display ever shipped on a portable device. We give you a look at the iPad (3rd generation) focusing on the Retina display in this, the first in a series of videos where we will focus on a major feature of the new iPad.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Features, Handhelds, Videocasts,

We open up the brand new iPad (3rd generation) in this episode. The new iPad (or iPad 3, as some call it) from Apple features an amazing Retina display, A5X processor with quad-core graphics, and optional 4G LTE from Verizon or AT&T. It's a nice upgrade from the previous iPad 2, and is the best tablet for the money that you can get today. In fact, you can get one right now from Apple. All you'll find in the box is the iPad tablet itself, along with a sync cable and AC adapter for charging, and that's really it. Not much to this one, but not to worry, we'll have plenty more iPad (3rd Generation) videos for you soon, including some LTE speed tests.

Magnus magnetic ipad stand review

The Apple Smart Cover is a convenient way to protect the display of your iPad, and can also double as a simple stand. However, there are times where you'd prefer to have something a little more sturdy, and a little more elegant, and that's where something like the Ten One Design Magnus Magnetic Stand for iPad comes in. The Magnus is a magnetic stand that works with the new iPad, as well as with the iPad 2, and even the original. I was able to get my hands on one and have been testing it for a bit. We just got our hands on the Ten One Design Magnus, a magnetic stand for the Apple iPad. The stand features a striking minimalist design that works with all three generations of iPad that have been released to date. It's made of a nice, hand-finished brushed aluminum look that matches the rear metallic casing on the iPad itself. They sell out pretty regularly, but you can find them on Amazon for $47. We'll have a full review up later today, but for now, enjoy these images showing off the Magnus.

New iPad gets 10 degrees warmer than iPad 2, Apple says that’s expected

New iPad hot temperature

Some buyers of the new iPad have been reporting that it gets considerably warmer than the previous iPad 2 model. Jim Dalrymple from over at Loop Insight was able to get a statement from Apple regarding the increase in temperature:

"The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications,” Apple representative Trudy Muller, told The Loop. “If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare."

In other words, Apple is well aware that the new iPad can get a bit warmer, but that is because of all the new technology that it's packing. Tests have shown that the new iPad gets about 10 degrees warmer than previous models under heavy usage.

New iPad gets untethered jailbreak on day of release

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Mods / Hacks, Software,

We've gotta hand it to i0n1c for the video above that features the new iPad sporting an untethered jailbreak on the day of its release. Typically, Apple devices get jailbroken fairly quickly, but those are tethered jailbreaks that require that the device be plugged in to a computer during the boot sequence. An untethered jailbreak is much more difficult to achieve, and yet, here we are on iPad launch day. Check the proof in the video above.

ipad retina apps

The new iPad is upon us, being delivered to, and purchased by, hundreds of thousands (if not more) of people today. The biggest feature that Apple's touting is the Retina display, which is seriously gorgeous. That said, to really get the most out of the experience, you'll want to have Retina display-ready apps, otherwise you're just using apps that the iPad is upscaling. Here's a list of a bunch of apps that you can download, right now, that are ready to showcase the beauty of the new iPad Retina display:

Verizon set to offer free hotspot abilities with iPad 4G LTE

Verizon-4G-LTE-Hotspot

For those that are itching to get their hands on a new iPad,  users looking to tether might be interested to know that Verizon will be offering free hotspot access with its data plans. That means you’ll be able to use your tablet at 4G LTE speeds. That may come in handy when traveling or when the internet is down. But regardless the new feature gives new iPad shoppers more options.

Now as we’ve all come to know, phone carriers try to nickel and dime their customers. For lack of a better cliché, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, when it comes to adding features to your phone plans. That said, Verizon will be including 1 GB of data available as hotspot on all their 4G LTE data plans, that also includes their 1 GB data plan which starts at 20 bucks a month. Furthermore, Verizon is not requiring you to get locked in to an annual data plan, giving you the option to pay for data per monthly usage, as has been typical with iPad data.
