YouTube for iOS finally updated for iPhone 5, brings AirPlay back

YouTube app for iPhone 5 (2)   YouTube App for iPhone 5

Saying "finally" never gets old, especially when used appropriately: the YouTube for iOS app from Google is now, finally, updated to handle iPhone 5 4-inch display, as well as the two size flavors of iPad. The update fixes a head scratcher with AirPlay: Google for "reasons unknown" deciding to limit AirPlay functionality when the app first launched, even though AirPlay is on by default whenever you code an app that has any video functionally. Here is a list of more features of version 1.1.04126. Hopefully I didn't misplace a decimal point.

  • Optimized for iPad and iPhone 5
  • Stream videos with AirPlay
  • Tap logo to open your Guide of channels
  • Add and remove videos from your playlists

AnoStyle lets you add unique style to your iPhone and iPad mini

AnoStyle iPhone

Want to trick out your iPhone or iPad mini? The folks at AnoStyle are ready to hook you up, allowing you to do away with the black & slate or white & silver backing on these devices. The process of anodizing is similar to how Apple adds those colors to the iPhone 5 and the entire Mac lineup. Yet, with AnoStyle, they offer a much wider pallet of colors to choose from. The process takes about a week and costs $249 for the iPhone and $299 for the iPad mini. For those that are wondering, it does void your warranty on the device. Andru Edwards color scheming his iDevices to Gear Live orange is now a go!

2012 Holiday Gift Guide: Monopoly zAPPed

Monopoly zapped edition

Next up in our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide is Monopoly zAPPed, a full-fledged verion of Monopoly that can also be considered an iPad accessory. There are gonna be a lot of iPads and iPad minis under the tree this year, and if you already know someone who owns one (or who will own one this holiday season,) consider this game as a fun gift for them. The game is played with an iPhone or iPad with two to four players, and is different from tradtional Monopoly in that the device (iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone) is the bank and there are on-screen mini games. Also, there is no money, as you just swipe your credit card on the display for transactions. Included in the box are the game board with rubber pads, 6 tokens, 28 Property cards, 32 green houses, 12 red hotels, 2 dice, 4 Monopoly Touch-banking cards and instructions. You can pick up Monopoly zAPPed for $29.99, or $26.24 on Amazon (a 14% savings!)

Watch every Apple commercial from 1977-2012

Speaking of marketing, watch every Apple commercial from 1977 to present day. There's about 485 commercials, which includes the famous Mac vs PC, the technicolored hipster iPod dance ads and, of course, the iconic 1984 Macintosh SuperBowl spot directed by Sir Ridley Scott. One of my favorites, the first iPhone ad 'Surprised' from 2007.

Next Issue adds eight new titles to its unlimited monthly magazine plan

Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Corporate News, Software,

NextIssueNext Issue, the digital magazine services that's often described as "the Netflix of digital magazines," announced it will add eight new titles to it's tablet app. This brings the total library to 80 magazines, with impressive big hitters like New York Magazine, Food & Wine, and Men's Fitness.

Despite the additional magazine titles, pricing remains at $10 a month for 73 monthly and bi-weekly magazines, and $15 a month for access to the entire library, which adds in the weekly publications. If you use an Android tablet, the new titles aren't yet available on your platform, but should be the near future.

Bleeding Edge TV 461: iPad mini Smart Cover review

Apple released a Smart Cover accessory for the iPad mini, a smaller version of the iPad Smart Cover that costs the same $39 that the larger version costs. We thought the original model was great, and in this episode we let you know how we feel about the mini version of the display protector and tablet stand combo. We've got a few complaints about the functionality of the iPad mini Smart Cover. Check out the video for our thoughts!

2012 Holiday Gift Guide: Apple iPad mini

iPad mini

Next up in our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide is the Apple iPad mini. We're sure many of you expected to see this one here, but we weren't so sure until we got our hands on one, and realized after a couple of weeks that our full-sized iPad with Retina display was collecting dust. The iPad mini lives up the the hype that it has generated for years, and it is beautifully designed, what with its anogized aluminum shell. Battery life seem to be better than any iPad before it, and the display, while not Retina quality, is not that bad at all. You get the 7.9-inch 1024 x 768 display powered by a dual-core A5 processor and 512MB RAM in a package that weighs just 0.68 pounds. Prices start at $329, and you can get one now from Apple.

Siri’s Eyes Free Integration coming to Chevy Sonic LTZ / RS and Spark

Siri Eye Free GM

GM is the first to announce Siri integration with two new car models: the Chevrolet Spark and the Sonic Drive. The feature was dubbed "Eyes Free" and was announced at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June by former iOS chief, Scott Forstall.  Basically, "Eyes Free" will be integrated via the car's Bluetooth functionality and the iPhone itself. The user can then initiate Siri's voice command by tapping a button on the steering wheel, and Siri's responses will be played over the car's audio system. Other car manufacturers such as Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Jaguar, Audi, Land rover, GM, BMW and Mercedes are slated to incorporate Siri's "Eyes Free" as well.  Check out the full press release after the break.

iPad Stolen from JFK Airport

Heard of the Capper that nabbed 1.5 million worth of iPads from John F. Kennedy Airport? Coincidentally, the heist happened in the same building used in the movie Goodfellas. You can't make this stuff up! If you haven't heard, here's the story:

Right before midnight on Monday the 12th, robbers used JFK airport forklifts to load two pallets of iPads onto a truck. An airport worker, who was returning from break, saw and confronted the group but was unable to stop them. Law enforcement believes this was an inside job. It has been reported that airport worker, Renal Rene Richardson, was arrested as an accomplice for allegedly acting as a look-out. The FBI was tipped off by other workers who reported that Mr. Richardson made inquiries as to where the iPads were being stored and the location of the forklifts. The other suspects remain at large.
