Travelers who tend towards the extreme may want to think about investing in the Fast Find, an emergency location beacon that connects to the 406 MHz Search and Rescue satellite system. When activated, the Personal Location Beacon sends a signal for help and will continue to transmit at 5W for the next 24 hours. HTC has two new upgrades. The 107.85 x 53.1 x 13.7mm Touch Diamond2 has a 3.2-inch WVGA screen, GPS, HSDPA, Wifi, a 5 megapixel cam with auto-focus support for most audio and video files and a Qualcomm MSM7200A CPU at 528 MHz. The 116 x 59.2 x 17.25mm Touch Pro2 has the same CPU a 3.6-inch WVGA display, HSDPA, GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a QWERTY keyboard. Both will run Windows Mobile 6.1.

LG Arena KM900 Smartphone

LG has announced that it will unveil its Arena KM900 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that begins Feb. 11. The phone has a 3-inch WVGA touchscreen with 800x400 resolution and a 5 megapixel camera. The KM900 also has WiFi, A-GPS, and HSDPA 7.2 network support. What is most unique is its 3D touchscreen user interface with four customizable screens. No price or availability date has yet to be announced.

Virgin Mobile Helio Ocean 2 Smartphone

Virgin Mobile has announced that their Helio Ocean 2 will launch on February 12. This model is slimmer than the first generation but still has the dual-sliding design. Aside from the QWERTY keyboard, the phone features a 2.6-inch TFT display (240x320,) 3G connectivity, GPS with Google maps, stereo Bluetooth, a media player with background mode playback and access to social networking sites. It will also have 3D gaming, a file viewer with editing and a 2MP camera. A 512MB MicroSD card is included in the $149.00 price.

Sony Ericsson new CyberShot slider phone was oddly enough code-named Frances. (We wonder if this will start a trend.) The C903 has 2.4-inch TFT screen with 320x240p resolution, A-GPS, an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and active lens cover. Included are capabilities in other CyberShot phones such as PhotoFix, Face Detection and Smile Shutter. Available in a choice of 2 colors, Frances should make its debut at the end of Q2.

Honeywell’s Dolphin 9950 is a handheld computer that runs on a 624MHz Marvell PXA270 processor with Windows Mobile 6.0 and 3.5-inch touchscreen. It also features a GPS quad band, GSM networking, a digital cam, 802.11b/g Bluetooth capability and barcode scanning with the company’s Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0. Similar to their 9900, this model also has an integrated pistol grip and can handle dust, moisture and dropping on concrete, not that you should do that. Choose between a 56 or 43 key layout. If you want more than basic GPS, the newly updated HTC Touch Cruise doesn’t simply give navigational directions, it allows you to take a picture while their Footprints software saves your location. You can then add your comments and audio. The phone also has a one-touch interface and lets you locate services and traffic tangling. This a great phone for geocachers and those who want to convince their friends that they actually saw Mt. Denali. Look for the unlocked Touch Cruise in the spring for about $500.00 to $600.00.
