Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Smartphones, Google, Microsoft, Software,
Microsoft has given relief to Android business users as a native Outlook.com app made its way to the Google Play Store. The Exchange ActiveSync protocol is standard for business and Enterprise professionals. Unfortunately, the functionality is lacking in many older Android handsets. So, the initial user reviews of the app seem mixed but it's better than nothing. Check out the features after the quick jump.

Apple profits conceptualized

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, PC / Laptop,
Here's a clear example of The Street missing the woods for the trees when it comes to valuing Apple stock while giving companies like Amazon high volume and low profit yield a free pass.
Notable Highlights between Oct 2011 - Sept 2012:
- Apple record breaking profit of 41.7 billion.
- Apple revenue is 156.5 billion.
- Combined profit of Facebook, Google Microsoft, Yahoo! and Amazon is 34 million.
- Combined profit of the PC industry of HP, Lenovo, Acer, IBM ASUS, Dell, and Intel is 19.3 billion.
One could extrapolate that the major Android OEMS combined makes less profit than Apple makes from the iPhone alone.

Google planning to release AirPlay alternative

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Google, Home Entertainment, Rumors, Wireless / WiFi,
Rumor has it that Google is about to take on Apple's AirPlay with an open version of its own. So, it appears that DNLA and Miracast functionality is not enough for the Mountain View web search giant. No wonder, as both features are somewhat of a bag of hurt and have received lackluster reviews.
Google will attempt to get other venders to adopt its open streaming alternative and, perhaps, have the same huge success that AirPlay is having with customers. Apple has had vendors like Denon, Panasonic, JBL, Pioneer, Philips, Yamaha, Logitiech, iHome and Bower & Wilkins, to name a few, that have integrated AirPlay functionality into consumer products.

Nexus 4 Bumper case available in Google Play store for $19.99

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Accessories, Smartphones, Google, Handhelds,
Google has just put its new Nexus 4 Bumper Case up in its Google Play Store. The Nexus 4 Bumper is apparently a totally original case that protects just the sides of the Nexus 4 smartphone, leaving the entire front and back of the device open. Perhaps Apple should look into making a product with the same name, that does the same thing, for it's old iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S line of devices. Oh, wait.

Google Search iOS app updated with Siri-like Google Voice Search functionality (video!)

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Reference, Utilities, App Updates, Google, Free Apps,
Just like that, Google has updated its Google Search app for iOS with the Google Voice Search functionality that mimics Apple's Siri, first seen on Android devices. For those using iOS, now you have the best of both worlds. The update went live yesterday, and is a universal iOS app update for all iDevices, which also includes the new iPhone 5, iPod touch, and iPad mini. Users must be running at least iOS 4.2 to use the new app. My initial impressions of the Google Now voice feature is that it is quick, fairly accurate, and I like how it composes voice to text in real time. What are you waiting for? Go update and ask Google where to hide the body.

Google Nexus 4 from LG available on November 13th for $199.99

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Smartphones, Google, Handhelds,
This is the Nexus 4 by Google manufactured by LG. The latest and greatest creation from the folks in Mountain View. The stand out aspect is the new wireless charging capabilities. Surprisingly, this smartphone doesn't offer LTE connectivity, and that's a huge letdown in our opinion. However, the device comes with HSPA+ for those overseas travelers. It also comes with the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2; untainted by carriers or OEM bloatware and skins which, for some, is the reason why they would opt for this pure experience. The 16GB Nexus 4 will be available for $199.99 on T-Mobile with a two year agreement. If you prefer an unlocked model, those start at $299 for the 8GB or 16GB for $349, available only in the Google Play Store. All device versions will go live for purchase on November 13th.

Google's big Android event that was set for this Monday, October 29th, has been canceled due to Hurricane Sandy after a state of emergency was declared by Governor Andre Cuomo. The Android focused event was to be held in New York's waterfront district, and Google says it will be rescheduled for a later time:
"We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more."
Hopefully the event happens sooner rather than later for all of you who are looking forward to the new Nexus 4 smartphones and Key Lime Pie software sweetness. Brace yourselves as the "FrankenStorm" is about to hammer the East Coast.
