Design nerds unite - the Dell Crystal monitor, which is available now, could change the way people think of monitors altogether. Combining great design and great functionality, the Crystal is a 22” solid tempered glass monitor with built in speakers with a maximum resolution of 1680x1050 (um, what?!) and a 2 millisecond response time.
The Crystal features five capacitive touch controls, four speakers, a 2 megapixel webcam and a microphone integrated so well that they’re virtually unnoticeable at first glance. It’s mounted on a metal tripod and features a single cable with the connections for power, USB, subwoofer out, and the DVI/HDMI with HDCP.
The CES Engineering & Design Award winning Dell Crystal is available now for $1199.

CES 2008 Video: VoodooPC $22,000 24k Gold Omen AU PC

At VoodooPC‘s section of HP‘s CES booth, we got a look and some specs about their Elemental series Omen AU, a completely gold-plated PC, covered in 24 karat gold. Sporting the classic Voodoo wiring job and with support for up to triple SLI, the entirely water-cooled, quad-core system seriously rocks. The price tag is enough to by a nice car, however, at $22,000. Only two have been sold thus far, but I imagine Flava-Flav will be calling to have them put one on a chain soon enough.
Sure you’ll need a second mortgage to enjoy this system, but it’s one of the few pieces of technology on the floor you can say will actually increase in value over time. (The price of gold rising dramatically lately.)
Hit the video and see it first-hand, and check out our photo gallery for some up-close pics.

CES 2008 Video: Toshiba’s X205, Qosmio G35 AV690 Gaming Notebooks

Toshiba was kind enough to show us their full range of HD DVD-capable laptops. In the video, we go over the Qosmio $3,000 system which features a full 1080p screen (and looks simply gorgeous) and HDMI output. You can output in straight 1080p to an HD TV over the HDMI out, to glorious, CEC-compatible result. It’s also the world’s first notebook to include a rewritable HD DVD, which may or may not be terribly relevant given the recent mullings over HD DVD.
When I asked about their impression on that though they said they have absolutely no intent of giving up the fight and very much intend to continue to support the format.
Also check out the video to see the Satellite A205—a $899 laptop with an integrated HD DVD player, though no HDMI.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Full Episodes, Gizmatic, CES, CES 2008, Features, GPS, HDTV, Home Entertainment, Podcasts, Video Games, Videocasts, Wireless / WiFi,
Alright, so we arrived here in Las Vegas for CES 2008 late last night, and figured we’d record our first video from one of our hotel rooms. I mean, why not, right? We talk about what we expect and hope to see at this year’s show, and even equate different historical hairstyles to where we see the industry going in 2008. Yeah, we really needed to get some sleep before doing this - but hey, what’s the fun in that?
Oh, and Brenda made that hat on the plane trip over.
