Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone launches April 8 for $99

This morning, AT&T announced that the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone will launch at just $99 on April 8th. This confirms the rumors that we've been hearing for over a month now, and puts a top-of-the-line, fantastic 4G LTE smartphone on the market at a price that all experts agree is a steal.
Seriously, with a two-year contract, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal on a smartphone. Windows Phone 7.5 is a great mobile operating system, the Lumia 900 is a beautiful device, and it's packing a great 4.3-inch display and 4G LTE speeds.
If you're gonna be looking for a new smartphone starting next month, do yourself a favor and at least research this phone. In fact, you can check it out in the video after the jump.

Nokia Lumia 900 release pushed back to April

March 18th was the set date for the Nokia Lumia 900, but due to technical difficulties, red tape, and all that jazz, the release date has been bumped back a bit to April 22nd, reports BGR. However, though the longer wait time may be disappointing to some, the price is definitely not. As stated earlier this year, the Lumia 900 will sell for $99 with a two-year contract. The only question that’s left to be answered in my mind, is will this phone be indestructible as the old Nokia brick phones? Time will tell when April rolls around and we’ll make sure to keep you posted, but for now just know that the best Windows Phone yet will be available in just over a month.
iOS 5.1 now available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

As Apple promised this morning during its iPad event, iOS 5.1 is now available for download. What's new? Well the major items include the fact that Siri can now speak to you in Japanese, photos can be deleted from Photo Stream (finally!), and a camera shortcut is now always visible on the lock screen of the iPhone and iPod touch. Other additions include a 4G indicator on the AT&T iPhone 4S, and optimized audio for iTunes TV and movies to make the audio louder and clearer when watching on an iPad. Download it now!
AT&T clarifies throttling rules for unlimited data customers

AT&T stopped offering unlimited data plans for its cell phone customers long ago, but allowed those who already subscribed to such a plan to be grandfathered in. However, recently it's become very obvious that, grandfathered in or not, AT&T wants you off of the unlimited plan, and that they'd annoy you with slow data speeds in an effort to nudge you towards a tiered plan. Some users were seeing their speeds throttled down after using just 2 GB of data on their "unlimited" plans. After enough people complained, and enough press covered it, AT&T has finally decided upon what the throttling rules will be for unlimited data customers. If you have a smartphone that works on our 3G or 4G network and still have an unlimited data plan:
- You'll receive a text message when your usage approaches 3 GB in one billing cycle.
- Each time you use 3 GB or more in a billing cycle, your data speeds will be reduced for the rest of that billing cycle and then go back to normal.
- The next time you exceed that usage level, your speeds will be reduced without another text message reminder.
- If you have a 4G LTE smartphone and still have an unlimited data plan, the same process applies at 5 GB of data usage, instead of 3 GB.
So, there you have it. If you have an unlimited 3G data plan, then you can use up to 3 GB of data in a given billing cycle before your speeds are throttled down to super-slow for the remainder of the cycle. Once a new cycle begins, the process starts again. As for you unlimited 4G LTE AT&T customers, you get 5 GB instead of 3 GB. Kind of horrible, since 4G LTE is supposed to let you get faster data speeds and all the advertisements around it show customers using it to stream movies and TV shows, and yet AT&T is saying if you do that a couple of times, then for the rest of the month your data speeds will be nowhere near what 4G LTE is advertised as.

We give you a first look at the upcoming Sony Xperia ion, the first Sony 4G LTE smartphone, in this episode. The Xperia ion features a 4.55-inch high definition touchscreen display, 12 megapixel camera, and a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, and brushed aluminum metal backing. It can shoot 1080p video with the rear camera, and 720p video using the camera up front. The phone will ship with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and is also Playstation-certified, which means you can play Playstation games right on the phone, or on your TV with the dock. HTC One X featuring Beats Audio set to hit AT&T stores

AT&T will finally be graced with a phone featuring Beats Audio by Dr. Dre. The HTC One X is set to hit store selves within a few months. The phone features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED 720p high definition display, alongside an 8-megapixel camera and running HTC’s Sense 4 running atop Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The superphone is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor. The only downside to the AT&T version of the smartphone is that it is a dual-core processor rather than a quad-core. United States buyer will be losing two cores to accommodate for a 4G LTE radio. But hey, we’re not complaining. For those in want of the quad-core model, you can always import one from Europe, we guess.

AT&T set to deploy self-healing network to ease the pain of overloaded cell towers

Like many AT&T users, we have a love-hate relationship with the carrier. The problem is, looking at the other options, I really wouldn’t wanna go anywhere else. Despite what they'd have you believe, all networks have their flaws, data usage terms, dropped calls, and pricing structures that can result in paying an arm and a leg for service that doesn’t always provide the best coverage. We’ve all been there. For those on AT&T’s network there’s a glimmer of hope for improvement in network coverage.
AT&T is partnering with Intucell in producing a "self-healing" technology that its calling a Self Optimizing Network (SON). SON will efficiently maximize each cell towers usage. If a tower is overloaded with users, a signal is sent out to neighboring towers that can lighten the load, all without human intervention. The towers will be able to adjust in real time to help with high traffic usage. What does this mean for the user? SON has been in tested in areas of California along with Georgia, and users have seen a 10% increase in reception and 10% decrease in dropped calls. The technology should be rolled out nationwide sometime during 2012. Check the video below for more details!

With January almost over and CES behind us, the rumor mill has moved on to the next big thing. Today, the device in the limelight is the Nokia Lumia 900, Windows Phone Mango device that's at the top of our lust list. Set to launch March 18, 2012, you can expect to start seeing advertisements soon, and if word on the street is correct, the device will be just $99.99 with a two year contract. That is huge. That's half of what we expected the device to launch at, what with its 4.3-inch display and 4G LTE data speeds.

Samsung has announced that its Galaxy Note mini-tablet/super-big phone will officially be coming to AT&T in the near future. The Galaxy Note sports a 5.3-inch 800x1280 Super AMOLED Plus display, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and even includes a fancy stylus (though, they call it an S-pen.) The device will run on AT&T's newly-launched 4G LTE network. We're still waiting on a shipping date, but hey, at least it's confirmed now!

Today AT&T is pushing forward with its 4G LTE deployment, lighting up 11 new markets with super-fast mobile broadband. Cities included in this rollout, which just so happens to double AT&T's LTE footprint, include New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Boston. This brings its number of LTE-covered markets to 26, reaching 76 million people. That sounds great, but it's still nowhere near Verizon's 200 million people covered by its own 4G LTE network. Also, devices. AT&T is lacking in 4G devices. However, that's nothing that a little CES love can't fix next week.
