Baz Luhrmann to Shoot Great Gatsby in 3-D?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Adaptation, Classics, Drama, Romance, Filmmaking, Rumors, Technology, Upcoming Releases,
Baz Luhrmann is thinking about shooting The Great Gatsby in 3-D.
The Australian director - who is known for theatrical films such as Moulin Rouge - said he has "workshopped" the idea to bring F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel to life in multiple dimensions.
He revealed the possible plan while speaking in Las Vegas about technology in film at the Consumer Electronics Show alongside fellow directors Michael Mann and Oliver Stone. Baz's version of the The Great Gatsby is set to star Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. At the show he admitted he wasn't surprised that there some scepticism about the widespread adoption of 3-D, as it was first used with "gags" before moving on to "spectacle and drama" in Avatar - but said he thinks it can be used in "poetic cinema" - films similar to his adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.

Intel debuts next generation Core processors at CES
Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: CES, CES 2011, PC / Laptop,
Intel has announced the details of its next generation CPU at CES, the Sandy Bridge Core processor. Basically, it's the next generation Core series of CPUs that will soon power a large amount of desktops and laptops. Some of the features include better energy performance, providing better battery life, and improved 3D graphics. One of the perhaps most impressive change is how much better the integrated graphics will be. Previously, a system that does not have a dedicated graphics card, but instead relies on Intel's integrated graphics, could simply not play any recent 3D game. According to some early reports, that may no longer be the case. Intel also claims "content creation is up to 42 percent faster and gaming up to 50 percent faster." Like previous chips, the new Sandy Bridge will be available as i3, i5 and i7. A big thank you to Sears from bringing out the Blue Blogger Crew to CES.

Nintendo warns against allowing kids to use Nintendo 3DS 3D functions

Those thinking about buying the upcoming Nintendo 3DS for your pre-schooler might want to wait a few years. In advance of its Nintendo World 2011 demo, Nintendo posted a warning that suggests children under the age of six should not use its 3D functions.
"Vision of children under the age of six has been said [to be in the] developmental stage," according to a note posted to Nintendo's Japanese site. 3D content, including the 3DS, "delivers 3D images with different left and right eye images, [which] has a potential impact on the growth of children's eyes."
Nintendo recommended the use of parental controls to only allow younger gamers to play in 2D. There is "enough for everyone to enjoy," Nintendo said.
Nintendo recommended that players of all ages take breaks from 3D content every 30 minutes - or if you feel sick.

How to buy a Blu-ray player
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Features, HDTV, Home Entertainment,
The benefits of Blu-ray are crystal clear: Video from traditional DVDs contains fewer than 350,000 pixels, while 1080p HD video packs more than two million, which translates to sublime, high-resolution detail. If you want to make the most of your 1080p HDTV, you should upgrade to a Blu-ray player.
And there's never been a better time to do it. The technology has matured, and the current crop of Blu-ray players offer stellar HD picture quality, fast disc-handling, and extras like integrated Wi-Fi, audio and video streaming, and in the case of Sony's Internet TV Blu-ray Player, Google TV, which brings Web search and other Internet features right to your HDTV.
These days you can find a very solid, well-rounded player for less than $200 if you do some smart online shopping. Still, there are a lot of choices out there. Here's what you need to consider when choosing the right Blu-ray player:

Sharp Galapagos 3D gaming phone
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Smartphones, Video Games,
Japanese phones have been described lately as suffering from “Galapagos Syndrome”. This term comes from Darwin’s discovery that species in the Galapagos Islands seemed to evolve separately from the rest of the world. As such, Japanese smartphones have been criticized for not being accessible to the western market. The upcoming 3D phone from Sharp, ironically called the Galapagos, hopes to change the impression of Japanese smartphones in western minds.
The Sharp Galapagos is powered by Android, and includes a 3.8 inch glasses-free 3D screen set to rival the stereoscopic 3D of Nintendo’s 3DS. What’s more, the Galapagos is set to receive seven games at launch, such as: Resident Evil: Degeneration, Mobile Powerful Pro Baseball 3D, Mega Man, Taiko no Tatsujin, SLIPHEED Alternative, Ghost ‘n Goblins: Gold Knights, and Reikai Denwa. In addition to video games, the Galapagos will also be getting 3D movies like Shrek Forever After and Battle Royale 3D.
However, the Nintendo 3DS is much more powerful graphic-wise than the Sharp Galapagos, as is the iPhone 4 graphically. Though, this is definitely a great phone for mobile gaming in 3D without glasses.

Silent Hill returns to theaters in new 3D film
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Movies, Video Games,
Silent Hill is returning to theaters, but this time with a Michael J. Bassett penned script instead of Roger Avary. The flick will be based off one of the more popular Silent Hill games, Silent Hill 3, revolving around Heather Mason and her search for her father.
The official synopsis of the film reads: "For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."
Also, this Silent Hill film looks to take advantage of the 3D craze, and inject a little more stereoscopic into your life (as if you needed anymore).
